고령층의 국내 관광 활성화 방향: 개념적 접근

국문 초록

본 연구는 고령층도 관광소비활동의 주체로서 관광비수기를 타개할 뿐만 아니라, 새로운 관광시장을 창출할 수 있고, 고령층의 대상적 특징이 다양하기 때문에 이에 대한 접근방식이 달라져야 한다는 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 고령자의 개념 정립과 고령관광의 조작적 정의, 고령관광의 특성, 선행 연구 등을 살펴보았고, 고령층 관광활성화의 선진사례분 석으로 국가와 민간의 협력프로젝트 사례와 민간의 관광교육프로그램사례를 통해 시사점을 도출하였다. 이를 근거로 고령층의 국내 관광활성화 방향을 제시하였는데 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고령층을 바라보는 관점을 취약계층이 아닌 관광소비의 주체로 바라보는 인식의 전환이 필요하고, 고령층이 관광활동하면서 타인의 시선을 불편하지 않도록 공평한 서비스 문화를 전개해나가야 한다. 둘째, 고령층 관광자의 구분을 건강상태와 소득수준에 따라 적극적/활동적/ 순응적/소극적/일반적 관광객으로 관광시장을 분류하고, 이들의 특성에 맞는 고령층 국내관광 지원정책을 마련할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 고령층의 지적 욕구와 정서적 욕구, 사회적 욕구를 모두 만족시켜주는 고령층 관광교육프로그램 개발 지원을 통해 고령층의 정서적 안정과 고령관광의 시장 다변화를 추구할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study was started from an awareness that approach to the elderly should be changed, as the group who can afford tourism consumption are likely to overcome low season in tourism and create a new tourism market, as well as their various characteristics. To do this, we looked at the conceptualization of the aged, the operational definition of senior tourism, the characteristics of it, and previous studies. For advanced case analysis on the tourism activation of senior citizens, the implication has been developed through case studies of national and private cooperation projects and examples of tourism education programs in private sector. The direction of activation of the domestic tourism of older people was suggested, based on this, as follows. First, it is important to regard the old as the principal subject of tourism consumption, rather than vulnerable social group. It also seems that fair service culture need to set up so that they do not care what others think of them while doing sightseeing. Second, senior tourists need to be classified as proactive/active/compliant/passive/ordinary tourists according to their health status and income level, and support policy of domestics tourism of the elderly suitable for their characteristics ought to be formed. Finally, it can be assumed that we pursue the emotional stability of the elderly and the market diversification of senior tourism by supporting developing of the elderly tourism education program that satisfies demand for their intellectual, emotional, and social desire.
