후세(後世)에 전승된 이순신의 시정신(詩精神) 고찰

국문 초록

『이충무공전서』 「권1, 12, 15」에는 공의 한시 「한산도야음(閑山島夜吟)」에 대한 차운시(次韻詩) 48수와 추모시(追慕詩) 42수를 합해서 총 90수가 수록되어 있다. 지은이 90인을 연대별로 분류하여 내용을 분석한 다음, 한시의 시론(詩論)에 의거하여 이순신의 시정신을 분석한 다음, 후세에 전승된 차운시와 추모시의 가치를 고찰했다. 시정신은 시에 나타나는 시인의 정신세계이다. 48수의 차운시에서 읽을 수 있는 공통점은 국난을 극복한 이순신의 높은 충절과 공훈을 흠모하는 시정(詩情)이 상징화된 큰 칼에 집중되어있다. 사언고시(四言古詩), 오언과 칠언 절구(絶句), 율시(律詩), 배율(排律)이라는 다양한 형식으로 작시(作詩)된 추모시에도 공의 위대한 삶과 살신성인에 대한 애통함이 절절하다. 이순신의 시정신은 한시의 원류인 『시경』에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다. 시는 일상적인 말을 넘어서는 비록 짧은 시 한 구절에도 무궁한 뜻이 있어서 읽는 이의 마음을 맑게 정화하고(性情純化), 미풍양속(風俗敎化)을 길러준다. 이러한 시의 도심(道心)으로 밝은 깨달음을 얻게 한다는 효용론이 유가(儒家)의 시론이다. 이순신의 시정신을 계승한 후세 선비들은 공의 시와 생애를 통해서 ①얻은 감흥으로, ②흥기(興起)하여, ③성정(性情)을 정화(淨化)하는 동시에 ④차운시 또는 추모시를 지었고, ⑤작시(作詩)된 시를 읊으면서 다시 ‘마음 정화’의 수기(修己)를 통해 우국충정의 에너지를 함양하게 되었을 것이다. 이순신의 삶 그 자체가 한 편의 대서사시였으므로 그 감흥으로 추모시를 쓰지 않을 수 없었을 것이다. 스스로 붓을 들어 시를 쓰고 읊었던 그 ‘순환과정’에 이순신의 시의 본질과 가치가 자리하고 있다. 이순신의 시정신이 후대에 계승된 가치를 분석해 보면 지금까지 밝혀지지 않았던 충무공 이순신의 또 하나의 탁월한 업적으로 기록되어야 한다.

영문 초록

We can read 42 Chinese echo-rhythm poems(次韻詩) and 48 memorial poems(追慕詩) of his life and achievements to respect Admiral Yi Sun-shin. I classified the writers of 90 poems into chronological sequence, reconfirmed their Korean translations, analyzed their poetical meaning, and the poetic spirits of Admiral Yi and many poets for about three centuries according to the traditional Chinese poetics. Poetic spirits mean the mental world in ones poetry. Hansandoyaeom(閑山島夜吟)」is one of Chinese rhymed verses comprised of five-words-four lines with two rhymes(五言絶句). We can read the poetic spirits of Admiral Yi in the Hansandoyaeom, and in 42 echo-rhythm poems, too. We can find their admiring mind for Admiral Yi’s loyalty and exploits in common, and a symbol of patriotic sentiment through the long sword of Admiral Yi, too. The forms of 48 memorial poems are five-words-four lines, seven-words-four lines, eight-line verse(律詩), and free-line verse(排律). Their forms are varied, but have the same poetic spirits. The commonality of 42 echo-rhythm poems and 48 memorial poems is Admiral Yi’s loyalty and lamenting his death for about 280 years in the Joseon Dynasty era. The poetic spirits of Admiral Yi traces back to 『the Book of Odes(詩經)』 that is the origin of Chinese poetry. The poetry viewpoint of Confucian began in the preface of 『the Book of Odes(詩經)』, called 「Mosiseo(毛詩序)」. It was advanced in the teachings by Confucius. It is called the education of public morals(風敎論), which was handed down Korean Confucian scholars. Admiral Yi sticked to the education of public morals. In my opinion, Admiral Yi developed his character undergoing the process of writing poems and reciting them. By means of poetry, he was able ① to heal agony and anxiety, and recover his composure, ② to demonstrate the ability to control the war situation and central government, ③ to command the naval forces victoriously and exercise his humanitarian leadership for refugees, ④ to dissolve mental distress, ⑤ to fulfill the duty as a father to his family and as a naval commander to his king, and ⑥ to realize the wisdom of life communing with nature. The poetic spirits of Admiral Yi and the writers of 90 poems is a spring where the ardent patriotic sentiment of Admiral Yi sprouts. The classical scholars who wrote and recite their poems purified their hearts and cultivated virtue through the clear water from Admiral Yi’s poetical spring.
