유성기 음반(SP)으로 보는 이경설의 활약과 그 의미

국문 초록

본고는 배우 가수 이경설이 녹음에 참여한 유성기 음반 자료를 중심으로 그 전체 모습과 작품들을 살펴본 것이다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 먼저 이경설의 생애와 활동을 간략하게 살펴보았다. 이어서 3장에서는 그가 녹음에 참여한 유성기 음반의 전체 모습을 제시했다. 이경설은 살아생전에 돔보 음반회사, 시에론 음반회사, 포리돌 음반회사에 유성기 음반 작품을 남겼다. 그런데 기존에 정보가 부족해서 이경설의 작품으로 잘못 알려진 예도 있는 바, 본고에서는 객관적 근거를 바탕으로 이경설의 작품 목록을 다시 작성했다. 이 또한 다른 자료가 발굴되면 수정하거나 보완해야 하겠으나, 현재로서는 최선의 작업이었다고 본다. 마지막으로 4장에서는 이제까지 이경설의 작품으로 보이는 두 편의 대중가요와 두 편의 극 작품을 소개했다. 이에 대해서는 아직까지 거의 언급이 없던 부분인데, 본고에서는 이를 중요하게 생각하여 그의 삶과의 연계속에서 작품 분석을 시도하고자 했다. 극 작품 두 편 중 한 편은 ‘이경설 안(案)’이라 적혀 있고 실제 작품도 아직 발굴되지 않아서 그 온전한 모습을 알 수 없다. 다만 <결혼 전선 이상없다>라는 제목을 볼 때, 비극이 아닌 희극 작품이라 추정할 뿐이다. 반면에 그가 작사한 대중가요 <숨죽은 주장>은 가사와 음원이 현재 모두 발굴되어 있다. 그리고 <망향비곡>과 <망향비곡 주제가>는 음원은 아직 찾지 못했으나 가사지는 온전하게 남아있어 내용을 확인할 수 있다. 세 작품 모두 비극에 해당하고 이경설이 죽기 직전에 창작한 작품으로 보인다. 그리고 이경설 사후에 유작의 형태로 대중에게 소개되었다. 현재까지 광복 이전에 활동했던 여성 작사가로는 이준례, 김정숙, 최승희 정도가 알려져 있을 뿐이다. 그런데 이제 여기에 이경설 이름을 한 명 더 추가할 수 있을 것이다. 게다가 유성기 음반 중 극 음반에서 여성 작가를 거의 찾을 수 없는 중에 이경설이라는 여성 작가를 발굴한 것은 이 논문의 성과라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This is a review of the whole picture and works of an actor singer, Lee Kyung-sul, focusing on Phonograph recordings in which she participated. In Chapter 2, I briefly reviewed the life and activities of Lee Kyung-sul. Then in Chapter 3, I presented the complete picture of the recordings in which she participated. Lee Kyeongsul has recorded at three record companies, Dombo record company, Chieron record company, and Polydor record company. However, there are some examples of the works that are not Lee Kyung-sul’s because of the lack of information. Therefore, In this paper, I rebuilt the works of Lee Kyung-sul based on the objective grounds. Even though further investigation should be required to correct or supplement the data of this review paper when other new data are uncovered, I can claim that the results of this review are based on my utmost endeavors at this time. Finally, in Chapter 4, I introduce two popular songs and two dramatic works that have been seen as works of Lee Kyung-sul. In this article, I tried to analyze her work in the continuance with her life. One of the two dramas is written as Lee Kyung Sul (Draft) , and the actual works have yet to be discovered. However, when you look at the title, There is no problem marriage warship”, it is assumed to be a comic rather than a tragedy. On the other hand, the lyrics of her song The Breathless Bar are both excavated now. And I have not found the sound sources of “Manghyangbigok” and ‘the theme song of “Manghyangbigok”. However, the lyrics remain intact, and thus the contents can be confirmed. All three works correspond to tragedies and seem to have been created just before the death of Lee Kyung-sul. And it was introduced to the public in the form of a posthumous festival. Until now, only Lee Jun-rye’s and Kim Jung-sook’s lyric works have been known as women s lyric works before the liberation. Now we can add another name to this list. In addition, the result of this paper revealed that a female writer named Lee Kyung-sul was unearthed while almost no female writer could be found in the drama record of the vagrant period.
