『대한매일신보』 소재(所載) 개화기시조의표기법고찰

국문 초록

개화기는 표기법의 형성기이며, 모색기에 해당한다. 또한 문법서, 교과서, 자전, 신문, 잡지 등의 발간과 더불어 국어 정책이 등장하는 시기이기도 하다. 기존 연구들이 개화기 시조의 형식과 내용에 집중되어 있어 국어학적 접근이 필요했다. 이에 이 글에서는 『대한매일신보』 에 수록된 개화기 시조를 바탕으로 개화기 표기라는 국어학적 특징에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 개화기 시조는 주로 민족지에 실렸으며, 2년 남짓한 짧은 기간 다양한 작자층에 의해 창작된 작품은『대한매일신보』 지면에 수록되었다. 개화기 시조는 신문 지면에 게재되어 나름의 일관된 표기를 보인다. 또한 ‘唱’에서 ‘文’으로 독립되는 지점에 해당하므로, 언중들의 실제 발음을 반영하는 구어체적 특징도 나타난다. 개화기 시조는 ㅅ계 병서 표기가 주를 이루며, 어두 경음화 현상을 반영한 ㅅ계 병서 표기와 어중 경음화를 반영한 ‘ㅺ, ㅾ’의 쓰임도 보인다. 이는 개화기 시조가 이전 시기까지 창으로 불리었다는 특징과 관련이 있다. 또한 종성은 7종성으로 표기함으로써 표음적 표기를 취하였고, 용언의 경우, 연철과 분철 표기가 공존한다. 더불어 중철 표기는 순행 중철과 역행 중철 표기로 나타나며, 재음소화 표기도 보인다. 이밖에도 한자어 어두의 ㄹ은 본음을 그대로 적고자 하였으며, 어중의 ㄹㄴ 표기에서 표기자의 상이한 표기가 발견된다. 이를 통해 현대 국어와 근접한 시기임에도 표기의 혼란이 지속되고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 개화기는 근대와 현대 국어를 잇는 과도기적 시기이므로, 여러 표기의 혼재를 보인다. 개화기 시조의 표기는 개화기 다른 문헌에서 나타나는 양상과 유사하면서도, 시조가 지니 는 장르적 특징을 포함한다. 이러한 까닭에 개화기 시조의 다양한 작자층의 표기를 통해 개화기 언중들의 표기 의식을 살피고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This study aimed at investigating the notational characteristics of sijo during the enlightenment period published in 『Daehanmaeilsinbo』. Sijo of enlightenment period means sijo from Gabogyeongjang(the political reform) in 1894 to the early 1910, mainly published in the newspaper and magazine. Korean version Daehanmaeilsinbo(1908. 11. 29.) had ‘​조’ page on the front page, and about 400 pieces of sijo were created for 2 years until cessation of publication(1910. 8. 29.). Such enlightenment period sijo is significant in respect of investigating notational consciousness of various writers. Chapter 2 treated the situation of enlightenment period sijo, and Chapter 3 treated Byeongseo writing(writing the consonant characters laterally attached), final consonant writing, Buncheol writing(syllabification) and Yeoncheol writing, and Jungcheol(of Double Spelling) and Jaeeumsohwa writing(splitting a phoneme into two) etc. of the enlightenment period sijo. Enlightenment period sijo was composed mainly with ㅅ-initial compound cluster writing, also, ㅅ-initial compound cluster writing reflecting glottalization also appears. final consonant writing is composed of 7 final consonant, a group o consonant ‘ㄺ, ㄼ’ were explained with their form. Also, besides the internal predicate, Yeoncheol writing(writing in succession) takes the major part also in combination with word ending, combined with Buncheol writing(syllabification). Both declension of a substantive and inflection of predicate show Jungcheol writing, and an example of Jaeeumsohwa(splitting a phoneme into two) appears. Besides, start of word ㄹ, ㄴ were intentionally written with the original sound, and ㄹㄴ writing appears in the middle of word. Notational consciousness of People was investigated through the enlightenment period sijo. The notation of the enlightenment sijo mostly displays similar aspects to the other literature during the enlightenment period, also, sometimes difference appears. Based on this, this research could determine that there was a transitional characteristic of the enlightenment period.
