한국 기혼남성의 무급노동 시간에 대한 연구: 생활시간조사 1999년~2014년 데이터를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 통계청 생활시간조사를 활용하여 기혼남성의 무급노동시간 변화추이를 살펴보고, 가사노동과 자녀돌봄 시간에 영향을 미치는 변수들이 지난 10년 사이에 그 영향력에 있어서 어떠한 변화를 보였는지를 분석하였다. 이를 달성하기 위하여 통계청 생활시간조사 1차(1999년)~4차 (2014년) 자료를 활용하여 유자녀 기혼 남성의 시간사용추이와 무급노동시간양의 변화양상을 살펴본 후, 2004년~2014년 자료에 대한 토빗 회귀분석을 통해 이들의 무급노동시간 결정요인을 추정하 였다. 분석결과, 유자녀 기혼남성의 무급노동시간은 전반적으로 조금씩 증가하는 경향을 보였는데, 학령기 자녀를 양육하는 남성에 비해서 미취학 자녀를 양육하는 경우에 보다 큰 폭의 증가세를 보였다. 평일과 주말로 구분하여 남성의 무급노동시간을 살펴본 결과, 평일의 경우에 남성의 가사 노동시간은 별다른 변화를 보이지 않았으나 자녀돌봄 시간의 경우에 미취학 자녀가 있는 남성의 돌봄 시간이 상당부분 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 주말의 경우에도 무급노동시간이 최근으로 올수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났는데, 자녀 연령 구분과 상관없이 가사노동에 대한 남성의 수행시간이 전반적으로 증가하는 추세이다. 마지막으로 토빗 회귀분석 모형을 통해서 2004년에서 2014년 사이 기혼남성 무급노동시간의 결정요인이 상당히 변화하였다. 미취학 아동유무, 학력 등의 요인은 연도와 상관없이 일정한 방향을 나타내었지만, 맞벌이 여부, 연령, 성역할인식, 소득 등의 변수는 지난 10년간 그 영향력에 상당한 차이를 보였다. 특히 2004년 맞벌이 여부는 남성의 무급노동시간을 설명하는 강력한 요인이었지만 2014년에는 통계적 유의성이 확인되지 않았고, 성역할인식은 같은 기간 정반대의 효과를 나타내었다. 즉, 시간이 지남에 따라 평등한 성역할 인식을 가진 기혼남 성의 무급노동 참여가 확대되는 경향을 보이게 되었다. 이러한 결과는 가구 내의 미시적 양성평등을 증진하기 위한 다양한 정책적 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the changes in the unpaid work time of married men using the Time Use Survey. We analyzed how the variables affecting domestic chore and child care time have changed in their influence over the past decade. In order to achieve this, we used the data from the first survey (1999) to fourth survey (2014) of the Time Use Survey to examine the trends of time usage of men and focus on changes in the amount of unpaid work hours Respectively. Finally, we examined the effect of the causal variables on the unpaid work time of males, and conducted a Tobit regression analysis of 2004, 2009 and 2014. As a result, the unpaid work time of married males showed a tendency to increase slightly in general, showing a larger increase in the number of preschool children when compared with those of school-age children. As a result of examining the unpaid working hours of men by dividing them into weekday and weekend, it was found that the hours of housework for males did not change much in the case of weekdays but the hours of childcare of males with preschool children increased considerably. In the case of weekends, too. The unpaid work time increased with the recent increase. However, regardless of the age group of the child, the working time of the housework is generally increasing. Finally, the Tobit regression model has significantly changed the determinants of married male unpaid work time between 2004 and 2014. Preschool child, educational background, etc. Showed a certain direction irrespective of the year, but variables such as dual income, age, gender role awareness, and income showed significant differences in influence over the past decade. In particular, the dual income in 2004 was a strong factor explaining men s unpaid work time, but the statistical significance was not confirmed in 2014, and gender role awareness showed the opposite effect in the same period. In other words, as time went on, married men with equal gender awareness tended to increase their participation in unpaid work. These results suggest that various policy efforts are needed to promote micro gender equality in households.
