노인의 사회적 배제 수준의 변화와 연령집단 차이: 영국고령화패널(ELSA)분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 시간경과에 따른 노인의 사회적 배제 수준과 그 변화 양상과 연령집단별 차이를 분석하여 연령증가에 따른 사회적 배제의 특성을 확인하고 예측요인을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 영국고령화패널(ELSA)의 1차에서 4차 조사까지 약 6년에 걸쳐 수집된 50세 이상 남녀 7631명의 자료를 사용하여 종단적인 분석을 실시하였다. 노인의 사회적 배제는 사회적 관계망, 문화 및 여가 활동, 의료서비스 접근, 재정적 안정, 정서적 배제 영역의 다섯 개의 하위 영역으로 구분되어 분석되었다. 분석결과 첫째, 잠재성장모형을 통해 개인내적인 변화를 추정해본 결과, 노인의 사회적 배제 수준은 문화 및 여가 활동 영역을 제외하고 시간의 경과에 따라 점차적으로 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 관계망, 의료서비스접근, 고독감 영역의 경우 선형 적인 증가를 보였고, 재정적 안전 영역은 이차 곡선의 증가 형태를 보였다. 둘째, 변화에 있어 연령집단 차이를 살펴보기 위해 다집단 분석을 실시한 결과, 대부분의 영역에서 연령대가 높을수록 초기값이 높고 시간에 따른 변화율도 높은 것으로 나타나 후기 노인의 사회적 배제 위험성을 보여 주었다. 셋째, 잠재성장모형의 초기값과 변화율에 영향을 미치는 요인을 살펴본 결과 연령, 주관적 건강상태, 교육수준 활동능력, 결혼상태 가족관계, 수급여부 등이 다양한 영역의 배제 수준 증가와 관련된 변수였다. 이와 같은 결과를 토대로 연령증가에 따른 노인의 사회적 배제 상황에 대한 이해와 효율적 개입 전략에 대하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the current state of the older people s social exclusion by identifying the trajectories of the change in social exclusion level and age group differences. This study has adopted longitudinal panel data, English Longitudinal Study of Ageing(ELSA) starting from the initial survey Wave 1 in 2002-03 to Wave 4 in 2008-09. Taking the sample retention rate into account, the data of 7631 respondents who aged over 50 were used for the analysis. The social exclusion of the older people was analyzed into five different sub-dimensions: social relationship; cultural activities; access to health services; financial security; and sense of loneliness. For the variable-centered approach that focuses on the average change of the respondents, Latent growth model and Multi-group analysis based on the structural equation model have been applied and he data was analyzed using PASW 18.0. The results by LGM showed that social exclusion level of the older people increased over time at most dimension of social exclusion except for cultural activities. The older people s social exclusion level in terms of social relationship, access to the health services, and loneliness showed linear growth, while that in regard to financial security showed quadratic increase. And the results suggests that older people are highly likely to experience complex and multi-dimensional exclusion. Multi-group analysis looking at age group differences in the change has shown that the intercept was higher and the slope over time was steeper in the upper age groups. It implies that the oldest old are exposed to the threat of social exclusion. And for individual factors, gender, self-perceived health, educational qualification, income, physical activity, and for family factors, marital status and family relation, and for environmental factors, beneficiary status were relevant to the increase of social exclusion level in various sub-dimension. Implications and further suggestion were discussed.
