중학교 역사 교과서의 통일교육 관련 내용 분석

국문 초록

본 논문은 중학교 역사 교과서의 통일교육 관련 내용을 분석하고 개선 방안을 제시하는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 총 9종의 중학교 역사 교과서의 통일교육 관련 내용을 분석하여 역사 교과 통일교육 활성화를 위해 필요한 개선 방안을 도출하였다. 중학교 역사 교과서 분석 결과, 첫째, 통일과 관련된 사건들을 압축적으로 다루면서 중요한 사건들이 가지고 있는 역사적 의미가 명확히 다뤄지지 않았고 사건이나 사실을 나열하여 제시하는 방식으로 내용이 다뤄졌다. 둘째, 통일과 연관있는 시기의 내용을 다루면서 통일교육 관련 내용은 거의 제시하지 않아 통일교육과 연계하여 학습할 수 있는 기회가 적절히 활용되지 못하였다. 셋째, 통일교육 관련 내용을 남한 정부 또는 남북한 공동의 노력을 중심으로 서술하였고 남북한 관계의 한 축인 북한의 관점에서는 내용을 다루지 않음으로써 북한의 통일 정책이나 방향에 대한 종합적 이해를 제고하는 것이 용이하지 않았다. 역사 교과의 통일교육 관련 내용을 개선하기 위해 첫째, 통일 관련 일부 사건을 나열식으로 제시하고 있는 역사 교과서의 문제점을 보완하기 위해 역사교과서 내용의 재구성이 필요하다. 둘째, 통일의 대상인 북한에 대한 체계적인 이해를 위해 북한과 통일 관련 내용을 보완하는 것이 필요하다. 셋째, 역사 교과의 통일교육을 통해 통일을 추진하는 데 필요한 역사적 이해를 가질 수 있도록 관련내용을 보완하는 것이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyse the contents of unification education in the middle school history education textbooks and to suggest some strategies for developing contents of unification education for middle school students in South Korea. More specifically, the study focuses on the contents of unification education in the 9 sample history education textbooks. According to the results from the analysis of history education textbooks, 3 critical aspects of dealing with unification related issues can be pointed out as follows. First, they tend to describe a series of related things and historical events in a compact and brief way, so that their important historic meaning are not dealt with in detail. Second, they depict particular things and events at a certain period time between North and South Korea such as division into North and South Korea after Korean war 1953 and North-South tension in the 1960s. But it is shown that they don’t treat the issues from the perspective of unification education. Third, they focuse on South Korean government’s policy or North and South cooperative work regarding unification not including North Korean government’s perspective, which make students difficult to understand unification issues in a broad and comprehensive way. From this point of view, this study suggests that the contents of history education textbooks need to be reconstructed to improve their current shortcomings as presented above. In addition to that, some contents like ‘North Korea and unification’ should be dealt with more specifically in order for students to understand North Korea in a systematic way. Lastly, the contents of unification education need to focuse on the issues like how we progress and achieve unification between North and South Korea in order for students to approach unification issues more specifically.
