외국인 학부생의 학문적 글쓰기를 위한 ‘바꿔 쓰기’ 교육에 대한 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 외국인 학부생의 학문적 글쓰기에 필요한 바꿔 쓰기 기술의 개념과 특성, 교육적 필요성을 확인한 후 외국인 유학생을 위한 학문적 글쓰기 교재와 기존 연구에서 제안하고 있는 교육 방안을 검토하였다. 이를 바탕으로 외국인 학부생을 위한 바꿔 쓰기 교육의 원리를 제안하였으며 원리가 적용된 바꿔 쓰기 교육 방안을 제시하 였다. 바꿔 쓰기는 대학에서의 학업 활동에 필요한 기술이며 특히 학문적 글쓰기에서 자주 활용되는 기술임을 알 수 있었다. 이처럼 바꿔 쓰기가 학문적 글쓰기에 필요한 기술임에도 불구하고 지금까지 하나의 기술로 독립되어 교육이 이루어지지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이론적 검토와 교재 분석을 바탕으로 바꿔 쓰기의 교육 원리와 교육 방안을 제안하였다. 이 논문에서는 바꿔 쓰기 교육이 ‘학습자 특성’과 ‘기존 교육 방안과의 차별성’을 기준으로 하여 ‘학문적 담화 공동체에 부합하는 쓰기 활동’, ‘가공하지 않은 학문적 텍스트 활용’, ‘외국인의 언어 능력 수준 고려’, ‘외 국인의 사회문화적 배경에 대한 고려’, ‘독립된 쓰기 기술로 구분’, ‘교육 내용의 세분화 및 연습 과정의 단계화’, ‘교사와 동료 피드백 활용’이라는 원리를 중심으로 교육되 어야 한다고 보았다. 또한 이 원리를 적용하여 대학에서 부과되는 과제를 수행하기 위한 학문적 글쓰기를 목표로 바꿔 쓰기 교육의 실제를 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The goal of this research is to define concept and characteristics of the paraphrasing skill in academic writing, to consider educational needs of foreign language learners in respect to this skill, and finally to review academic writing textbook and previous research conducted on academic writing pedagogy. On the ground of this analysis we outline some principles for the didactic of paraphrasing skill and we show how to apply these principles to the classroom. Paraphrasing is a skill needed in academic activities, and it is particularly relevant in academic writing. Nevertheless it is possible to state that it has never been considered as a skill of its own. Thus the present study aims to show principles and to suggest pedagogical strategies through a textbook analysis and a review of the theory. Through such an analysis focused on “student’s characteristics” and “previous pedagogical strategies and individualization”, we suggest a didactic of the paraphrasing skill based on the seven principles “suggesting a writing activity which allow for correspondence with the written discourse of the academic community”, “using academic text not pedagogically modified”, “considering the language proficiency of the foreign learner”, “considering the society cultural background of the foreign learner”, “teaching paraphrasing as an independent skill”, “breaking down the educational content and planning of the exercise process”, and “using teachers and colleague feedback”. Then we show how to apply directly these principles to the design of language tasks aimed at teaching paraphrasing as an academic writing skill.
