학부교육 우수대학의 특징과 성공요인

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 학부교육 우수대학들에게 공통적으로 나타나는 특징과 성공요인이 무엇인지를 질적 사례연구를 통해 분석하여 제시하는 것이다. 연구 대상은 2011년부터 2013년까지 시행된 한국대학교육협의회의 학부교육 실태조사(K-NSSE) 에서 높은 성과를 보인 5개 사립대학이다. 사례 대학별로 각종 문헌 분석과 함께 현장 방문을 실시하고, 총장을 비롯한 본부 보직자와 직원, 교수, 학생을 면담하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 (1) 구성원과 문화, (2) 학부교육 시행 및 지원체제, (3) 정책적ㆍ환경적 환경 등 3개 영역에서 10개의 특징과 성공요인을 학부교육 우수대학에 공통적으로 나타나는 특징으로 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 단순한 제도의 모방이 아니라 대학의 특징에 따른 창조적 모방, 장기적 관점에서의 지속적인 노력, 학부교육 체제 혁신을 위한 정부의 적절한 역할의 필요성 등을 학부교육 체제혁신을 위한 시사점으로 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics and success factors of 5 effective undergraduate teaching institutions in Korean Higher Education through multiple qualitative case studies. Five exemplary private universities were selected based on their performance from 2011 to 2013 in Korean National Survey of Student Engagement. The data for this study were collected mainly from interviews for institutional leaders, administrative and academic staff, and students at those five universities. The study found ten common characteristics and success factors of the five case universities with effective undergraduate programs, albeit different extent and pattern, which were presented as the following three categories: (1) University constituents and Culture, (2) The implementation and supporting system of undergraduate education, (3) PolicyㆍEnvironmental factors. Based on these findings, the study suggested, as recommendations for other universities seeking to change their undergraduate programs, that (1) creative imitation of good practices of other universities taking into account a unique institutional context, (2) long-term and consistent efforts, (3) more considerate government approach to trigger individual universities efforts to reform their undergraduate education systems.
