영문 초록

This paper examines the variations of the city-size distributions in the context of the central place theory. For the analysis this paper suggests a hierachical city-size distribution model which considers a dynamic nesting pattern and an alternative market shape in the central place system. Through the analysis of the model, this paper demonstrates that the nesting exponent and the population multiplier factor are positively associate with the variations of the city-size distributions. The model is tested against international data by the format of the regression analysis. In the empirical test the nesting exponent and the population multiplier factor are measured by per capita GDP and the ratio of the population of the largest city to the total population of a country, respectively. This paper shows that the results of empirical tests are quite robust even if some control variables are employed.
