영문 초록

In the past three decades, Korea has experienced unprecedented rates of high economic growth along with rapid industrialization. Massive rural to urban migration, particularly to Seoul, stimulated rapid urbanization. The shift of population distribution in favor of large urban agglomerations, however, created significant regional disparities. One of the most important features of the 3rd National Spatial Development Plan (1992-2001) is "balanced regional development" Even though the definition of the "balanced regional growth" was not clarified. The concept of this term, however, is still remaining in vague concept since the last 2nd National Spatial Development Plan. This paper discusses the policies for National Spatial Development Plan and the Regional Development Plan for Chungbuk Subregion. The items discussed in this paper for National Spatial Plan are as follows ; ① Development Strategies of National Spatial Development Plan, ② Growth control of the Capital Region, ③ Growth management of large cities, ④ Specialization of functions for small cities in local areas, Also regional development strategies for Chungbuk Region include the development for four subregions in the province and for different sectors. This paper expects that the Chungbuk region will rapidly gain its economic capability in the near future.
