平凡的世界에 나타난 주요 인물의 성장유형과 작가의식 고찰

국문 초록

路遙는 중국의 當代 작가로, 그의 平凡的世界는 고난과 시련을 이겨내고 자신의 꿈을 추구해 가는 陝北 지역 사람들의 생활상을 그려낸 장편소설이다. 이 작품의 시대배경은 1975년부터 1985년까지 10년 동안이다. 이때는 중국의 문화대혁명이 끝날 무렵부터 개혁 개방 초기까지의 기간이다. 路遙는 작품에서 세 명의 주요인물의 성장과정을 통해 인간의 삶과 개인의분투와 노력을 표현하고 있다. 특히 세 인물은 각각 ‘성장’이라는 공통분모를 가지고 있기는하지만, 그들이 추구하고자 했던 이상은 또 각자 달랐다. 이들 중의 두 인물은 공공의 이익을위한 단체의 리더로서 성장해 가고, 나머지 한 명은 자신의 개인적인 꿈을 찾아 나서고 있다.그러나 이들은 무에서 유를 창조해내는 물질적인 성장이라기보다는 노력을 통하여 자신이 추구하고자 하는 정신적 성장에 더 큰 가치를 두고 있다. 작가는 작품에서 1980년대 당시 농촌에서 도시로 진출하려고 하던 사람들의 과도기적인 관념과 그 당시 그들이 직면해야 했던 시대적 갈등을 표현할 때, 자신이 실제로 처했던 현실과 이상을 추구해 가는 과정에서 겪었던 그 고민을 작품 속에 잘 반영해 냈다고 할 수 있다. 구체적으로 말해, 작중의 孫少平은 농촌을 벗어나 도시로 진출하는데 성공한 것으로 설정되어 있지만, 孫少安은 여전히 농촌에서 소박한 꿈을 실현하는 것으로 설정되어 있다. 孫少平이 필사적으로 농촌을 벗어나고자 했던 상황과 孫少安이 끝까지 농촌에서 삶을 영위해 가는 상황을 감동적으로 묘사할 수 있었던 것은도시와 농촌을 모두 경험했던 작가의 의식 때문으로 사료된다.

영문 초록

Ordinary World is the novel that Lu Yao, a famous writer of his age, told thelives of people in Shanbei who fought against trials and tribulations and pursuedtheir dreams. This novel showed the 10 year period between 1975 and 1985, fromthe end of the Cultural Revolution to the beginning of China’s reform and openingup. Luyao showed that not only human life but also individual struggles andefforts through the growths of the three main characters. In particular, all the threeshared a common element, ‘growth’, whereas they pursued different ideals. Two ofthem became the leaders of groups for public interests, whereas the other onewent after his own dream. However, they focused on spiritual growth for fulfillingdreams with efforts rather than on physical growth for making something out ofnothing. The author was good at adopting his own conflicts that he actuallyexperienced between reality and dream when he described transitional ideas andsocial conflicts of people who tried to move from rural areas to urban areas in1980. In other words, Sun Shao Ping, one of the main characters, succeeded toescape from rural areas and move to urban areas, but also fulfilled his simpledream at rural areas. Based on his own experience in both rural and urban areas.The author successfully touched readers’ hearts with situations of Sun Shao Pingwho desperately wanted to escape from rural areas but ended his life at ruralareas.
