조선시대 통신사 사행록에 반영된 上關

국문 초록

이 글은 조선시대 통신사 사행록에 반영된 上關에 대해 살핀 것이다. 첫째, 통신사행에서 上關의 역할에 대해 살폈다. 上關은 1590년부터 1763년까지 통신사가 한 번도 빠트리지 않았던 바닷길 노정의 대표 경유지로, 전후 노정은 갈 때는 向浦-上關-津和였고, 올 때는 鎌刈-上關-赤間關이었다. 또한, 사행원으로 부터 긍정적인 평가를 받을 정도로 통신사 접대에 온 힘을 쏟았던 지역이기도 했다. 둘째, 통신사 사행록에 들어앉은 上關의 모습을 살폈다. 사행록에서 上關은 거친 바닷길이자 천혜의 요새로 그려졌다. 하지만 빼어난 경치로 사행원의 흥취와 향수를 불러일으키고 통신사와 지역민이 문학·書畵·演戱·의학 분야 등에서 다양한 문화교류를 펼친 공간으로 그려지기도 한다. 이밖에 억울하게 죽은 벗을 꿈에서 만나고, 배가 불탔으며, 이국인으로서 네덜란드인을 처음 만난 공간이자, 거의 반년 만에 돼지를 잡아 포식하기도 하는 등 다양한 일화가 문학적으로 형상화된 공간이었다. 이처럼 上關은 조선시대 통신사와 밀접한 관련을 지닌 주요 노정 지역이었다.

영문 초록

This paper is about the Kaminoseki(上關) reflected in the records of Tongshinsa in the Joseon Dynasty. First, it explored the role of Kaminoseki in Tongshinsa procession. Kaminoseki was a representative transit area of seaway routes which was never left out by Tongshinsa from 1590 to 1763. The pre and post routes were Mukoura-Kaminoseki-Tsuwa, and Kamagari-Kaminoseki-Akamagaseki, respectively. In addition, Kaminoseki was the area which put so much effort into the reception of Tongshinsa as to get a positive assessment from people who participated in Sahaeng. Second, it investigated the appearance of Kaminoseki situated into the records of Tongshinsa. Since Kaminoseki is not only a rough seaway and nature's own fortress, but also an area equipped with a superb scenery, it aroused the interest and nostalgia among people participating in Sahaeng. In addition, it served as the place where various cultural exchanges between Tongshinsa and local residents occurred in the fields of literature, calligraphy, performance and medical science, and people had reunions with their friends who died under false accusations in a dream. It was also the space in which a variety of anecdotes such as the ship on fire and an encounter with the Dutch were implemented literarily. Likewise, Kaminoseki was a major route that had indispensable connections with Tongshinsa in the Joseon Dynasty.
