국문 초록

본 논문은 《 三言 》 의 작품을 대상으로 작품 속의 인물이 어떻게 ‘善人’에서 ‘惡人’으로 변하는지 다각도로 살펴보았다. 이러한 변화과정을 통해서 알 수 있는 것은 작품 속 인물은 어느 한 장면, 어느 한 단계에서 고정되어 있지 않고 언제든지 바뀔 수 있으며, 이러한 변화가 가능한 인물이야 말로 작품의 줄거리를 좀 더 생동감 있게 만들고, 독자의 감흥을 불러일으킬 수 있다는 것이다. 인물의 ‘善性’에서 ‘惡性’으로의 변화 과정은 작품에 있어서 줄거리를 전개하거나 사건 발생의 단서를 제공할 뿐만 아니라, 획일적인 특징을 가진 인물 속에서 복 잡하면서도 다채로운 측면을 보여준다. 인물의 성격 변화 과정을 통해 작품 속의 인물은 더 욱 입체적인 인물로 재창조되고 있는데, 이들은 줄거리 전개에 직ㆍ간접적으로 관여함으로써 줄거리 진행 속도의 완급을 조절하고 고정적 이야기 구조에 반전과 굴곡을 부여하면서 서술적 리듬감을 이끌어 낸다. 이와 같은 과정은 인물과 배경, 주제와 의의, 형식과 내용이 서로 어떻게 조화를 이루며 인물의 다양한 특징을 유기적으로 드러내는지 분명하게 보여주 고 있다.

영문 초록

This research investigated how the character in the work changes from a ‘good person(善人)’ to a ‘bad person(惡人)’ in various aspects focusing on 《 San-Yan(三 言) 》 . Through this change process, the researcher could determine that the character in a work is not fixed one in a certain scene or a stage, but can change any time, and this changeable character can develop the story of the work more vividly and raise impression of readers. The change process of character in a work from ‘good character(善性)’ to ‘evil character(惡性)’ not only develops the story of the work or provides a clue of event occurrence, but also raises various and dramatic change in the character that has a uniform characteristic so as to show the complex and diversified aspects dynamically. This shows such a person equipped with ethical values or universal humanity could be changed to an evil person, through which figure, it simultaneously considers other character's characteristic in the work, also performs a function to draw attention to the detailed characteristic. Regardless that they are major characters in the work or not, their personality change takes a significant role in leading the story and developing the event. Through the process of character's personality change, character in the work is recreated as one who acts more vividly, which takes the lead of rhythmic sense by controling speed of story development and creating reversal and curve in the fixed story structure by directl yㆍ indirectly participating in the story development. This process distinctly shows how the character and background, subject and implication, and form and content of the work react to each other and reveal various characteristics of character organically.
