한승원의 『연꽃바다』에 나타난 심층생태주의적 양상 연구

국문 초록

이 글에서는 한승원의 소설 『연꽃바다』를 대상으로 심층생태주의를 논의했다. 『연꽃바다』에서는 먼저 인간중심주의로부터 생태계 위기가 유발된다는 주제가 도출되었다. 그에 대한 대안의 사유로서 생태계 내 생명현상의 원리를 보여주는 관계론적 평등성, 유기론적 복잡성, 순환하는 생태계가 논의되었다. 먼저 등장인물의 설정과 그들의 대화를 통해 생태계 내 모든 개체는 서로 관계된 가운데 존재 발현이 가능하므로 그 가치가 평등하다는 주제가 추출되었다. 또한 우주 만물이 모두 '하나'로서 복잡성의 체계 속에 있다는 주제가 논의되었다. 나아가 소설 『연꽃바다』의공간적 배경인 '땅끝마을'의 특성과 그들의 대화를 통해 생태계는 순환성을 발현하는 통합의 담지체라는 주제가 도출되었다. 이와 같이, 한승원 소설 『연꽃바다』에서는 인간중심주의에 대한 비판의식을 토대로 대안의 사유인 심층생태주의가 논의되었다. 작가가 지향하는 주제는 인간중심주의로부터 벗어나 생태계의 유기체적 특성을 회복해야 한다는 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper presents a discussion about deep ecology with The Sea of Lotus Flowers by Han Seung-won. The investigator first found that the novel was based on the theme that anthropocentricism caused the crisis of ecosystem and then discussed relational equality, organic complexity, and circulating ecosystem that represented the principles of ecosystem as alternative thoughts to the theme. Relational equality led to the thinking that beings could be manifested as all the individuals and phenomena in the ecosystem were connected to one another through the setting and communication of characters. In addition, there was a topic identified that all things in the universe belonged to the system of complexity as "one." Furthermore, "Ttangkkeut Village," which is the backdrop of the novel The Sea of Lotus Flowers, and the conversations of the village people led to another topic that the ecosystem was the root of manifestation of circularity and the carrier of consolidation. The findings clearly show that there was deep ecology, which is a line of thinking about the current ecosystem crisis, reflected in The Sea of Lotus Flowers by Han Seung-won, who sought after to restore the organic characteristics of ecosystem by escaping from anthropocentricism in the novel.
