백제문화제 수륙재의 가치와 의미

국문 초록

이 글은 부여에서 설행된 부여 백제문화제 수륙재의 실상을 바탕으로 앞으로의 발전 방향을 살핀 글이다. 부여에서 60년간 수륙재가 설행되었다는 사실을 듣고 60년의 세월의 부피를 느끼면서 백제문화제 수륙재가 가지고 있는 가치와 의미를 떠올렸다. 백제문화제라는 커다란 행사 중의 하나로 진행은 되었지만, 이처럼 오랜 세월동안 수륙재가 민간 주도로 설행되었다는 것은 수륙재의 세부 구성을 따지지 않더라도 그 의미가 막중하다. 게다가 수상 수륙재라고 한다. 구체적으로 배위에 단을 모으고 수륙재의 일부 의례를 설행하였다는 데에서 민간신앙의 중요한 위치를 점하고 있는 용왕신앙, 해원 사상의 의미까지 가지고 있음을 직감할 수 있었다. 그만큼 60년을 이어왔다는 것은 백제문화제 수륙재가 예사롭지 않다. 하지만 막상 기록을 찾아보니, 60년이라는 시간의 부피는 있지만, 세부적인 의례 절차나, 설행한 주체, 어산스님들에 대한 정보 등 수륙재의 필수 기본 정보는 구하기 어려웠다. 최근에는 부여사암연합회가 수륙재의 설행주체가 되어 있지만, 과거에는 <백제사적연구회>라는 민간단체가 주도하기도 했다고 하니, 수륙재의 중요성은 알고 있으면서 막상 내실은 그렇게 많이 채우지 못했다. 하지만 수륙재가 원래 그런 것이라고 보면 이 또한 의미가 있다. 수륙재는 불교의 교리에 맞춰 세밀한 재차를 가지면서 설행되면 좋겠지만, 수륙재를 통해 무주 유주 고혼을 위로하고 천도시킨다면 재차가 부족함은 문제가 아닐 것이다. 수륙재가 가지고 있는 정신을 어떻게 이어나갈 것인가가 관건이 되기 때문이다. 결국 목적만 바르게 설정되어 있다면 주체가 누구이든지 수륙재가 설행된 자체가 의미 있다. 이러한 내용을 바탕으로 부여 백제문화제 수륙재의 발전 방향을 여러 모로 모색한 글이 이 글이다.

영문 초록

This article examined the future developmental direction of Suryukjae, a Buyeo Baekje cultural asset that was performed in Buyeo, based on the reality of its performance. After hearing the fact that Suryukjae has been performed in Buyeo for 60 years, the value and the meaning of Suryukjae, a Baekje cultural asset, were were brought to mind while feeling the magnitude of the time of 60 years. Although it was carried out as one of the biggest event of Baekje cultural asset, the fact that Suryukjae has been performed mainly by the private sector for such a long time has significant meaning in itself even without considering its details of composition. Furthermore, it is called Water Suryukjae. Specifically, the fact that parts of the rituals in Suryukjae were performed by gathering an alter on the ship allows us to intuitively know that it contained the meaning of Haewon thought and the Dragon God belief which is regarded to be significant in folk religion. Thus, the fact that Suryukjae, a Baekje cultural asset, has been continued until today proves that it is extraordinary. However, when its records were searched, although the magnitude of 60 years of time existed, basic and necessary information about Suryukjae such as a detailed ritual procedure, the main agent of performance, and information on the Buddhist monks were hard to procure. Recently, the Buyeo Saam Yeonhaphwae became the main agent of performance of Suryukjae, but in the past a private organization called used to perform it, which means the importance of Suryukjae was recognized but its actual substance was not sufficiently filled. However, if it is looked at assuming that it is the way that Suryukjae has been, it is also meaningful. Although it would be good if Suryukjae is performed with a detailed procedure in accordance with the doctrine of Buddhism, it won't be a problem if the lonely spirits of the deceased are consoled and sent to heaven through Suryukjae. It is so because the key point is how to continue with the spirit that Suryukjae contains. Thus, if the purpose is set correctly, regardless of who the agent of performance is, the fact that Suryukjae was performed itself is meaningful. This article is a piece of writing that sought the developmental direction of Suryukjae, a Buyeo Baekje cultural asset, in various ways based on the illustration above.
