영문 초록

This study aimed to investigate consumers’ consideration of functional and emotional factors for purchasing a mobile phone. As mobile phones become increasingly high-tech, it is hard to understand the functions and the performance of mobile phones for consumers. This study attempted to analyze the effects of consumers’ prior knowledge and information search activity on their consideration of functional and emotional factors of mobile phones. The major findings of this study are as follows. First, 58.3% of respondents had decided a particular brand in advance of their actual purchase decision. Second, consumers who have more prior knowledge tended to carry out both more ongoing information search and prepurchase information search. Third, the consideration level of functional factors had negative effect on brand-oriented purchase, while the consideration level of emotional factors and prior knowledge had positive effects. Fourth, consumers who have more prior knowledge considered both functional and emotional factors more. On the other hand, those who are married and have more prepurchase information search level considered functional factors more, while females considered emotional factors more.
