성공적인 노화와 노인의 종교성 관계 연구

국문 초록

노인을 대상으로 성공적인 노화와 종교성의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 종교성은 다섯 개의 차원, 즉, 의식(ritual), 헌신, 신녀, 경험, 지식의 차원으로 설명되었고, 성공적인 노화는 자아통합으로 정의하였다. 대전지역에 거주하는 남녀 노인 226명에게서 15문항의 자아통합 척도와 5 문항의 종교성 척도, 그리고 사회인구학적 질문들의 답을 얻었다. 3개의 가설을 검증하였고, 관련 연구문제 5개를 살펴보았다. 종교성과 성공적인 노화는 긍정적인 상관관계가 있을 것이고, 종교성의 각 다섯 개 차원은 가기 다른 상관성을 보일 것이며, 종교성과 성공적인 노화 점수에서 성별, 나이별 차이가 있음 것으로 예상하였다. 성별, 나이, 거주지, 가족, 배우자, 유무, 학력, 건강 등 다른 변인들의 성공적인 노화에 미치는 영향도 살펴보았다. 가설 1과 2는 지지되어 노인의 종교적인 성공적인 노화는 의미있는 긍정적인 상관관계를 보였고, 종교성이 다섯 차원은 성공적인 노화와 각기 다른 상관성을 보였다. 그 중 지식 차원과의 상관성이 가장 높았다. 가설 3, 종교성과 성공적인 노화에 있어서는 성차와 나이차이는 다른 연구와 달리 발견 되지 않았다. 다른 변인들의 효과분석은 종교성을 단일 변인으로, 그리고 다섯 개의 변인으로 나누어서 실시했는데, 나이, 성별, 경제상태, 학력, 건강이 성공적인 노화에 영향을 주는 변인으로 밝혀졌다.

영문 초록

The relationship between successful aging and religious activities (or religiosity) as represented by five variables, (1) Ritual, (2) Devotional, (3) Belief, (4) Experience, and (5) Knowledge, among the aged was investigated in Taejeon area. The successful aging was defined as an ego-integrity in this research study. There were 226 respondents who were 65 years old and over. They answered a questionnaire which consisted of an Ego-Integrity (15 items), Religiosity questions (5 items), and some selected socio-demographic questions(8 items). Three hypotheses and a number of secondary questions were tested. The hypothesis were: (1) It was expected that there would be a positive linear relationship between overall religiosity and successful aging; (2) It was expected that there would be a positive relationship between the 5 variables(dimensions) of religious activities and successful aging respectively; (3) Gender and age differences were expected in religiosity and successful aging. The effect of other variables - age, gender, spouses, living arrangements, residence, health, living expenses, and education - and some questions were also examined. The first and second hypothesis were supported by the present study, but the third hypothesis was not. Age, gender, education, health, and living expenses were the factors affecting successful aging. Among five variables, knowledge dimension of religion was the strong predictor of successful aging. Suggestions for future study included.
