치매시설 생활보조원의 노인돌봄 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 치매시설에서 일하는 생활보조원들을 대상으로 한 연구로서 그들이 치매환자를 돌보는 과정에서의 경험한 바를 규명하려는 현상학적 연구이다. 본 연구 결과 생활보조원의 경험은 노인돌봄 일을 선택한 동기, 근무경험, 정서적 경험으로 나누어 볼 수 있었다. 생활보조원들은 종교적, 비종교적 봉사의식으로 일을 시작하지만 근무과정에서의 환자관리의 어려움이나 열악한 근무조건으로 어려움을 겪는다. 그러나 긍정적 경험도 있다. 동료와 환자와의 인간관계는 소중한 경험이다. 더 나아가 생활보조원들은 어려운 가운데서도 보람을 느끼면서 일을 계속해 나갈 힘을 얻고 있었다. 생활보조원들은 이런 과정에서 환자들과의 상호작용의 부족과 질병이환에 대한 불안, 죽음경험으로 인한 우울 등 부정적 정서를 경험하지만 인간적 성숙을 초래하는 긍정적 정서를 경험하기도 한다. 본 연구결과는 치매 노인시설에서 일하는 생활보조원들의 업무동기, 근무과정의 어려움, 보람 등 치매환자 돌봄 과정에서의 경험을 심도 있게 이해하기 위한 자료가 될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This is a phenomenological study to examine closely the experience of care-assistants in caring dementia patient. Sample of 15 care-assistants participated and three theme clusters emerged when the formulated meanings were organized into categories. Study finding shows that although care-assistants begin work with service mind, they suffer from a lot of difficulties with dementia symptoms, anxiety of accident, complication in human relations with patients. Also, they are going through manpower insufficiency, heavy night work and discord between occupations. But they are getting strong business motives not only from affection for patient and strong relationships with companion, but also from a delight of service, improvement of symptoms of patients, self-confidence and self-conceit that oneself is achieving important role. As emotional difficulty, they suffer from depression, anxiety, sense of futility, guilty feelings etc. Lacking interaction with patients causes depression, and looking at dementia patient causes fear of taking sick of dementia. Also, they suffer guilty feeling about not having treated well patient or sense of futility while experiencing death of patient. But, their experiences in caring patients also have positive effects that cause personal maturity through deepening sense of mission, self-examination and fostering positive outlook on life etc. This study's findings will help to understand the work motivation, difficulty, and worthiness of care-assistants in depth.
