국문 초록

본 논문은 대학을 졸업하고 취업을 하게 되는 과정인 대학-직장 이행과정, 즉 취업과정에 취업자의 계층적 위치가 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 논의한다. 본 연구의 자료는 2012년과 2013년 필자의 사회조사실습의 수업의 일환으로 수행된 취업자 심층면접 자료들과 필자가 2013년에 직접 조사한 경상대 사회학과 졸업(예정)생 심층면접의 자료들이다. 취업의 경로와 취업준비의 내용들을 여러 사례를 통해 검토하면서, 경제적 상태가 취업 준비생들의 행태에 영향을 미친다는 것을 파악하였다. 그러나 계층효과와 관련하여 더욱 중요하게 지적하고 싶은 것은 학생들의 직업적 전망과 열망이 계층적 위치에 의해 일정하게 제한된다는 것이다. 직업적 경로의 선택에서 부모의 영향력이 상대적으로 낮은 것은 부모의 자식에 대한 신뢰 못지않게, 부모가 적절한 조언을 할 수 있는 능력이 제한되기 때문이며, 따라서 대학 내에서 학생들의 열망 수준을 높이기 위한 노력이 일정하게 필요하다고 제안한다.

영문 초록

This paper discusses the stratification effects on the college-to-job transition process, or job acquisition process after college graduation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews by students of Social Survey Practice class in 2012 and 2013, and by this author in 2013. Several paths of college-to-job transition process are identified, and the various kinds of job preparation during in college and after graduation are delineated. Stratification effects on the processes are well described, but it is emphasized that the occupational prospects and aspiration levels are much more influenced by the strata position of the students. Many people have said that they themselves have chosed their own occupational paths, and that their parents have respected their decisions, but it is my contention that the inability of the parents to properly counsel about the occupational prospects may be more important for the low level of parents' involvement. It is suggested that some efforts are needed to enhance the students' aspiration level.
