창원시 상징조형물 개발 연구

국문 초록

상징조형물은 단순히 미적, 장식적 역할뿐 아니라 도시의 랜드마크적 역할과 함께 지역의 이미지를 표현하고 경쟁력을 높이는 등 도시 활성화에 있어서 매우 중요한 요소로 대두되고 있다. 본 밀레니엄(Millennium) 상징조형물은 창원시에서 새천년을 맞이하면서 이를 기념하고 정체성을 확립하며 대외적인 이미지 향상을 위해 전국 현상공모를 통하여 스포츠 파크 만남의 광장에 제작, 설치한 것이다. 이에 당선된 상징조형물의 주제는 얼(spirit), 힘(energy), 빛(light)으로, 작품에 관한 구상 및 창의적인 전 개발과정을 체계화하였다. 이를 위한 이론적 배경으로 상징과 조형성의 이해와 상징조형물의 개념 및 역할, 사례조사를 통한 중요성과 특징을 파악하고 역사적, 지리적, 장소적 특성을 분석하였으며 주변 환경에 적절한 규모를 설정하였다. 또한, 전체적으로 상징표현에 중점을 두어 밀레니엄 시대 인류의 평화와 화합을 상징화하였으며 스포츠 파크의 상징조형물로서 운동성, 속도감, 역동성을 나타내고자 하였다. 개발 프로세스로 아이디어 전개, 모델링, 조명계획과 제작과정 단계에 따른 최종결과물을 제시하였으며 결과물을 통한 효용가치로 지역민의 자긍심을 고취하고 새천년을 향한 진취적 기상의 구현으로 창원시의 브랜드가치 향상과 아이덴티티 확립에 기여하는 계기가 되었다. 본 작품의 개발과정을 재고해봄으로써 향후 조형물 정책 입안자나 창작가들, 더 나아가 일반 대중들에게 표본적 역할이 되기를 바라며 상징조형물로서 도시지역의 활성화와 발전에 이바지할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Symbolic sculpture do not simply play aesthetic and decorative roles but are being highlighted as crucial elements in urban activation while playing roles as landmarks of a city and also expressing regional images and enhancing competitiveness. This millennium symbolic sculpture is designed and installed at the square of meeting in the sports park through a competition in order to welcome and celebrate the new millennium in Changwon-ssi, establish its identity, and also improve its image to the outside. Thereupon, this study aims to establish the creative and reasonable development system regarding the overall composition and developmental process of the researcher’s work of spirit, power, and light selected and installed. As the theoretical background for this, the researcher examined understanding of the symbol and formation, the significance and characteristics through the concept and roles and case study of symbolic sculpture, analyzed historical, geographical, and spatial characteristics, and set up the proper scale in surrounding environment. Also, focusing on the symbolic expressions in general, this study symbolized the peace and unity of mankind in the millennium era and intended to show mobility, speediness, and dynamism as the symbolic sculpture of the sports park. As the development process, this paper suggested the final result according to the steps of the development of ideas, modeling, plans for lighting, and making process. With the effective value of the result, this study provided a chance to contribute to improving the brand value of Changwon-si and establishing its identity by enhancing the residents’ pride and realizing progressive spirit towards the new millennium. Through the consideration on the developmental process of this work, it is expected that this will play exemplary roles to the sculpture policy makers and creators, and also the public afterwards and will contribute to the activation and development of urban area as symbolic sculpture.
