국문 초록

1991년 소련의 붕괴와 함께 탄생한 우크라이나는 독립국가로서의 명분과 정당성을 증명하기 위해 정체성 확립이 시급했다. 기존의 러시아 중심적, 소비에트 중심적 역사관을 수정하여 민족주의 역사관을 제시했으며, 이를 통해 내부적으로 통일된 정체성을 확보하고자 노력했다. 우크라이나는‘러시아’를 타자로 상정하고 러시아와는 다른 정체성의‘자아’를 형성해 갔다. 신화, 전설을 재해석하고 새로운 시대에 걸맞은 상징체계를 세우며, 영웅과 의례, 가치체계를 새롭게 하면서 민족건설이라는 과업을 수행해 갔다. 흐루쉐브스키 역사관을 토대로 민족사관을 재정립하고 과거의 상징체계를 새로운 것으로 교체했으며, 교육을 통해 민족주의 사관을 주입했다. 일상생활 속에서 국민들은 키예프 루시와 코자크시대를 거쳐 현대 사회로 연결되는 상징체계, 예를 들어 화폐, 국기, 국가, 우표 등의 상징을 접하면서 무의식적으로 새로운 정체성을 습득하도록 유도되었다. 독립 초기 시기로부터 유쉬첸코 정권에 이르기까지‘러시아’를 타자로 삼아‘우크라이나’의 새로운 정체성 만들기 작업은 일관되게 수행되었다. 2010년 대통령 선거와 함께 새롭게 등장한 야누코비치 정부에서도 우크라이나의 정체성 확립은 필요하다. 그러나 여전히 동과 서 사이 공통적인 문화의 토대를 굳건히 하지 못한 상황에서 일치된 정체성을 건설하는 것은 쉽지 않아 보인다. 친러주의 대통령 야누코비치가 어떠한 방식으로 '타자'를 규정하고 러시아와의 관계를 정립해 나가느냐에 따라 우크라이나 정체성형성의 방향이 바뀔 것으로 예견된다.

영문 초록

In the post-Soviet era, one of the most controversial issues were to create the new identity of their own. Not only Russia, but also all independent nations, including Ukraine, have attempted to create their own identity, based on their history. When Ukraine became an independent country, nationalists and Ukrainian historians living in exile attempted to insist that Ukraine has its own history which is clearly different from Russia. They believe that Ukrainian history has been influenced by Western values and systems, and experienced different historical path, which Russia did not pass through. Ukrainian government tried to create a new myth that Ukraine has its own historical path and origin, and enlighten their people through education empathizing a nationalistic value. In this effort, people learn that Ukrainians’ national identity is a unique combination of East Slavic culture and West European culture. The main purpose of this is to eliminate Russian influence and establish their own identity. This article introduces new types myths, identities, and historical perspectives on Kyiv Rus', which are created by Ukrainian government and nationalists on the nationalist perspective on their history. Also this article shows how Ukrainian elites and ruling classes interpret the Kyiv Rus legacy and create Ukrainian identity.
