영문 초록

One important task for any theory of semantic interpretation is to determine whether or not any given pair of NPs in a sentence can be interpreted as coreferential, and to find some way of representing this (non) coreferentiality. The most typical task of this semantic interpretation is the anaphora in this article. The anaphora consists of an anaphor and its coreferential word. There are three kinds of anaphora according to the existence of coreference or not, or to the position of anaphor: (1) Progressive anaphora, (2) Retrogressive anaphora and (3) Suggestive anaphora. And the general plans to argue this anaphor are simply suggested by Barbara Grosz (1977, 1981) and Candace Sidner (1979, 1981, 1983), and these are the methods to refer to the thematic informations of sentences. I tried to study the anaphor based on the above two professors’ articles in French, English and Korean. In conclusion, this study formulates the Binding Theory, the module of the grammar which regulates the interpretation of NPs. The general principles of anaphora are summarized like the following: 1. The principle of agreement in the syntactic features of gender, number and person 2. The thematic preference principle 3. Reflexivity principle 4. proximity principle
