Recently, due to the increase of crucial social problems such as social instability and moral crisis, recovery of character and morality concerning these social needs is becoming a critical issue which has led to an emphasis on practice-oriented character education schooling. The different social problems that are seen especially by adolescents have brought a strong criticism in school education, which demanded review of the necessity and the method of character education.
This study is to strongly request to seek the direction and the specific practice method of character education in public education, and to make sure this plan will take effect systematically in the field of education.
Character education in school is not accomplished simply by specific subject-matter. It should involve every activity in school including subject-matter, class and students' activities. In this category, character education methods include instruction of subject-matter, class activities, special activities, discretionary activities, guidance, and the distinct feature of school service.
However, character education cannot be successfully achieved by individual school's own will and effort. There is a need for developing and operating autonomous and specialized character education based on voluntary examination and effort by school, but in order for this to happen, it is necessary for assertive guidance and diverse administrative and financial support from government and city/province office of education.
