영문 초록

This paper has examined the Japanese military education conducted on Koreans in the early 1940s when the colonial rule was in its final phases. These educations can be divided into two fields: school education and social education. The military education conducted in schools focused on training future military cadets. The Japanese colonial government placed military instructors both at Korean middle schools and Universities and intensified the military training. However, as the war situation became more and more disadvantageous to Japan, regular education classes were reduced and arbitrary labor requisition increased. Therefore, time available for military education was reduced, and these educations were ordered to be conducted on labor fields. Eventually, in 1945, the Government General in Korea and Imperial Japanese Forces in Korea (朝鮮軍)were hardly able to conduct military educations on students. Military educations conducted on social levels varied, based on the schooling level of the people. This was so because the level of Japanese capability was essential in this training. The physique of the conscripted people was not such an issue. After finishing elementary training, intensified training was conduct on the enlisted via the "Youth Training Center Special Course Joint Training Center" and "Preliminary Military Service Training Center". The Military education conducted at these did not focus on physical military training which was required for immediate commitment; rather it focused on Japanese language training, military discipline training, and instilling Japanese ideology. The other education facilities focused on mobilizing labor instead of military training. As the situation worsened for the Japanese, this tendency became more and more deepened.
