This paper is written about the response of japanese government on Korean funeral ashes after World War II, to put it concretely, repatriation policy of the war dead at the battlefield abroad and sending policy of Korean fallen soldiers back to their homeland. In short, this paper is written to make the problem of korean funeral ashes of the war dead clear. It insists on two main points. The first, Japanese government excluded the korean families of the war dead from the list of reparation on the ground of deprivation koreans of japanese nationality according to Treaty of Peace with Japan in 1951. Nevertheless, japanese government sent unknown korean ashes to japan as japanese ones without any agreement with korea government for th reason why those ashes are unidentified. This is in contradiction to the application of nationality clause in Treaty of Peace with Japan. The ashes came to be buried at Chidori-ga-huchi-boin(National cemetery for unknown japanese soldiers), but three is no reference to korean soldiers on the brochure about it. The second, Japanese government sent 'korean' funeral ashes to south korea from time to time after world War II. Its aim was 'sending back' itself. It was irrelevant to thoughtful consideration for the families of the deceased. To the contrary, it was done under the political surroundings around japan. In short, japanese government just sent the ashes themselves through the korea government with no explanation and notice of the cause of death to the family. But japanese government tried its best for 'their nations' on the problem of notice of death and delivery of ashes. We may call the policy typical dual standard. The funeral ashes of the war dead from the old colony, from the standpoint of japanese government, brought a new bothersome anguish to japan after world War II. It was about the evaluation of japanese empire deconstructed by defeat, and the successive responsibility from the empire era. The right wings like 'the group for the new historical textbook(abbreviated Chukurukai)', insist that the old japanese empire is estimated with unjust manner. But if we take a look into the response of japanese government to the problem of korean war dead and ashes, we can understand japanese government itself recognizes that the old "Japanese Empire" was not 'a normal and modern nation-state'.
