영문 초록

This study outlines generally the life, the world of works, the political thoughts and the actions of KIM Seokbeom (金石範), known as the writer of "The Volcanic Island" they call it one of the highest peaks of Japanese postwar literature. At the same time, this paper tried to sketch an introduction for more detailed expositions. First of all, it is pointed that KIM Seokbeom in the second generation writer who has the double-bound identity, so he became more conscious of Japanese language as a writing tool While maintaining the relation with the ethnic community and organization in Japan, his ethnicity was built up, and he once challenged to write in Korean language at the beginning but soon convert to Japanese which had been the national language under imperial era. By choosing it, being related more closely to social background of Korea and Japan, he writes, thinks and acts as a writer in exile who has no regal nationality like Japan, nor North Korea even nor South Korea too. Now he has mentioned about South Korea with no enemy, but North Korea and Japan are remaining to be ambivalent or ambiguous. His literary world includes not only the representation of the April Third Movement, the military encounter, and the Holocaust at Jeju Island in 1948 but also more wide phases, for example Korean ethnic minority group and individuals, the several symbolic incidents for Japanese or Korean residents in Japan. He expresses in the existential way the bodies which naturally being political, represent the postcolonial conflicts. It is the Discourse of Engagement like J. P. Sartre, and connotes the secret of fecundity of his texts. This paper also refer to 'the World with no God', 'Jesa(祭祀=祭事)', 'Mom(軀)', the 'Mort(死)' and the 'justice', as its key-words. KIM Seokbeom has his own language thought that shows the influence of the structural linguistics of Saussure. And he has made many discussion over the democracy of Korea and Japan, the policy toward far-east Asia the US government has taken, and Peace or Anti-war for the people. Especially he has contributed to Korean civil movement and the affluent variety of Japanese society. The body being driven to despair and divided healthily overcomes both orientalism and colonialism. Finally, this paper tried to present the several ways to be released from the fixed images of KIM Seokbeom. After transcending all biased perspectives of left or right ideologies, Korean or Japanese nationalisms which appears clearly or implicitly, his tests will be opened more and more widely as one of the greatest world literature and the most radical action itself.
