탈북여성 디아스포라 재현의 성별 정치학

국문 초록

최근 한국문학에 우세한 탈국경의 상상력은 근대국민국가가 구축된 배타적 경계 속에서 소외된 타자들의 초상을 담아낸다. 이러한 흐름은 한국문학의 폐쇄적인 틀을 허무는 한편으로 새로운 정체성, 대안적 이념을 협상함으로써 탈근대 주체의 탄생을 기대하게 한다. 특히 여성 이주자들의 표상은 그러한 기대를 모은다. 이는 여성이주자가 반성적 매개로서 국경의 폭력성과 배타성을 비추고 고발할 것이라는 점은 물론이고 좁은 의미의 국경을 넘어 적극적인 디아스포라 되기를 실천하면서 근대적 이분법을 넘어서는 새로운 복수적 주체의 등장을 기대하게 만든다. 그간 한국문학에서 여성들의 이동과 유목은 타락이나 추방을 의미했기 때문에 집과 고향을 떠나 이상적 공동체를 찾아가는 모험은 허락되지 않았다. 여성이 길을 떠나기 위해서는 남복이라는 위장의 도구를 빌려야만 했다. 21세기 여성 디아스포라들의 여정은 무엇을 보여줄 것인가? 그러나 정도상의 연작장편소설 『찔레꽃』에서 탈북여성은 통합된 자기의 감각을 상실한 진보주의 한국남성 주체를 구성하는 타자로 등장한다. 90년대 이후의 세계체제의 재편으로 인한 북한의 위기상황은 한국의 체제비판적 지식인들이 더 이상 북한을 남한사회에 대한 비판의 거점이자 반근대적 향수의 표상으로 전유할 수 없게 만들었다. 그러나 역설적으로 최근 한국문학에서 탈북여성은 총체성의 확보가, 근대적 주체의 기획이 불가능해진 전망부재의 시대를 살게 된 데 따른 무력한 상황 속에서 재현의 대상이 되고 있다. 다른 한편으로 『바리데기』는 세계화의 중심에 우뚝 서고 싶은 의욕적인 욕망의 문학적 현현이다. 작가는 문화적 정체성을 주장하기 위해 서양/동양, 남성/여성, 이성/감성, 의식/무의식 등 근대적 이분법을 강화한다. 특히 여성-동양에 대한 표상은 오리엔탈리즘을 익숙하게 반복한다. 이렇듯 탈북여성은 마이너리티로 적극 호명됨으로써 능동적인 행위자가 아니라 동정과 연민의 대상으로 확정지어지거나, 한국의 지식인이 세계문학 안으로 끼어들어가기 위한 타자로 점령당한다. 디아스포라 모티프는 새로운 정체성, 얼터너티브한 에너지, 분산됨의 역동적 파동을 찾는 참신한 실험이 되지 못한다.

영문 초록

Recently, imagination of post-border is superior in Korean literature. It describes portraits of the other, who are alienated by exclusive borders, built by the modern nation-states. This flow breaks down the closed outline of Korean literature, and negotiates new identity and new alternative ideology. Therefore, it is expected to create a new post-modern subject. Especially, symbol of female defectors gather the expectation. It implies that female defectors, as media of introspection, would expose the violence and exclusiveness of the borders, and become positive Diaspora. They would get over modern dichotomy, and become new plural subjects. In Korean literature, female's migration or nomadism have been defined as depravity or deportation. Therefore, they were not permitted to look for ideal community, away from their homes. Females had to borrow men's clothes for disguisement, in order to start off on a journey. Then, what would journey of 21st century's female Diaspora show? However, in 『Wild Rose』written by Do-sang Jeong, North Korean female defectors are shown as 'the others' that form progressive Korean male subjects, who lost their senses united. After 1990's, North Korea had a crisis due to reorganization of the world system. It prevented Korean intellects, who are critical of the system, from possessing North Korea as their symbol of criticism on South Korea and their anti-modern nostalgia. North Korean female defectors are being objects of reproduction among the powerless situation, as there is no prospect of securing totality, and of planning modern subjects. On the other hand, 『Baridegi』 is the literary incarnation of live desire, that is eager to stand out on the middle of globalization. To assert cultural identity, the writer strengthens modern dichotomy such as Wester/Easter, Male/Female, Reason/Sensibility and Conscious/Unconscious. Especially, symbol of Female-Eastern proficiently repeats the Orientalism. North Korean female defectors are named assertively as 'minority' that they are not active agents, but objects of sympathy and compassion. They are also seized as 'the others' to be used for Korean intellects, in their attempts to cut into the World literature. Diaspora motif cannot be a fresh experiment to seek for new identity, alternative energy and dynamic wave of dispersion.
