국문 초록

KBS의 역사스페셜 팀이 2006년에 제작한 《박지원의 열하일기, 4천리를 가다》는 새로운 연구 성과를 기반으로 제작되거나 새로운 정보들을 담고 있는 프로그램이 아니다. 연암 박지원이 『열하일기』에서 지나간 사행길을 다시 추적하면서 그 책 안에 담긴 내용들 영상으로 담고자 하는 목적에서 만들어진 프로그램이다. 하지만 이 프로그램은 연암의 취지와는 다르게 중국내 고구려와 조선의 역사적 흔적들을 추적하는 것에 많은 부분을 할애하고 있다. 이 같은 복고적인 민족주의에 대한 향수와 영웅주의를 기반으로 한 구성은 연암이 자신의 여행을 통해 이야기하고자 했던 메시지와는 매우 다르다. 서구와 동아시아의 정세와 지식을 기반으로 조선의 문제점을 지적하고 성찰적 대안을 모색했던 것이 연암의 의도였기 때문이다. 이 같은 프로그램의 내용은 연암이 당시에 우려하고 있던 조선 사회 지식인들의 폐쇄적인 자민족중심주의를 다시 보여준다. 이 같은 프로그램의 시각과 내용은 현재 한국 사회가 당면하고 있는 세계에 대한 좁은 지식과 안목 그리고 다른 문화권 사람들과의 건설적인 연대의식과 책임감 부족 현상과 긴밀하게 연관되어 있다. 이는 시청자의 의식을 공공선을 위해 한 단계 고양시켜야 하는 공영방송의 본래적 의미와 맞지 않는 일이다. 한국에서 역사 다큐의 수준을 한 단계 높이기 위해서는 국제적인 공동제작이 필요하다. 이를 통해 양질의 역사 다큐를 제작을 위해 필수적인 충분한 제작비를 확보하기가 쉬워지고, 장기간의 기획과 조사를 가능하게 하며, 주제를 심화하기 위해서 필요한 다양한 학문적 네트워크를 활용하기가 쉬워지며, 좀 더 보편적이고 다양한 시각에서 문제에 접근하기 쉬워지며, 제작에 필요한 제반 업무를 해결하기가 쉬워질 것이다. 한국의 역사 다큐 제작팀은 이 제작 방식을 통해 제작과 관련해서 더 많고 다양한 제작 노하우를 축적할 수 있으며, 자신들의 시각도 다양해지고 보편적이 될 것으로 기대된다. 이 같은 변화는 제작자 자신들의 변화에 머물지 않고 역사 다큐를 보는 시청자의 안목에 변화로 이어질 것이다.

영문 초록

The program named “Yeolha-ilgi" of Jiwon Park, Go to four thousand miles” produced by Special History Team in 2006 is not the program which is neither made by a new research result nor contains new information. It is made to track the way that Yeonam took in the “Yeolha-ilgi” and to make the contents of that book a video. But this program mainly focuses on tracking the historical vestige of Gogurye in China and Chosun apart from the original purpose of Yeonam. This kind of framework that bases on the reactionary and nationalistic nostalgia and heroism is quite different from what Yeonam wanted to say through his trip. For his purpose it was to point out problems of Chosun and to grope for the reflective alternatives through his knowledge of the situation of Western and East Asia. This content of the program seems to show the closed nationalism of intellectuals of Chosun society again that Yeonam was afraid of at that time. The point of view and contents of this kind of program are closely related to the narrow view and knowledge about the world that Korean society is now facing and the deficiency of constructive fellowship and responsibility with other cultures. This doesn’t fit well the original purpose of the public broadcasting which should improve the audiences’ thought for the public good. To enhance the quality of a historical documentary, international co-manufacturing is needed. This will enable manufacturers to acquire the enough production fee which is essential to make the qualified history documentary, to plan and research for a long time, to easily use various academic networks to develop the theme, to access to the problem from more general and diverse point of views, and to make it easy to solve various matters for a production. Through this way of production Korean historical documentary manufacturers are expected to accumulate the more and diverse production know-how and to make their point of view more diverse and general. Not only will this change be the one of manufacturers themselves, but also this will change the audiences’ judgment about Historical Documentary.
