헝가리 정형시(定型詩) 율격(律格)의 구조와 특징

국문 초록

본고는 헝가리 정형시에 나타나는 율격의 유형과 구조를 살펴보고 헝가리 정형시의 율격이 가지는 특징을 살펴봄을 목적으로 하고있다. 정형시에 있어서 율격이란 시에 리듬과 규칙성을 부여하는 가장 중요한 요소임을 고려한다면 율격의 구조를 살피는 작업은 헝가리 정형시의 구조와 특징을 파악하는 작업이기도 하다. 뿐만 아니라 율격은 한 언어의 음운자질들로 이루어져 있기 때문에 율격에 관한 연구는 그 언어가 가지는 음운론적 특징을 살펴볼 수 있는 장을 제공하기도 한다. 헝가리 정형시의 율격구조를 파악하기 위해서는 율격의 개념정의와 더불어 율격의 유형과 각 율격의 특징을 살펴보는 작업은 필수적이다. 따라서 본고에서는 먼저 율격이론에 관한 다양한 학자들의 이론을 살펴보고 일반적으로 가장 공감을 얻고 있는 로츠(J. Lotz)의 이론을 틀로 하여 헝가리 정형시에서 찾아볼 수 있는 율격의 종류를 분류해 보고 각 율격이 가지는 특징을 살펴보았다. 헝가리 학자들 역시 로츠의 율격유형 분류이론과 흡사하게 음절수(szótagszám), 음의 강약(hangsúly), 음의 장단(időtartam), 음의 고저(hanglejtés)등 율격을 4가지 유형으로 분류하고 있다. 헝가리 정형시 율격의 가장 두드러지는 특징은 율격의 다양성에 있다. 일반적으로 다른 언어의 경우에는 시작(詩作)에 있어서 율격의 유형 중 한 가지 혹은 두 가지 유형이 나타나는데 비해 헝가리 정형시에는 음절율격, 강약율격, 장단율격 등 세 가지 유형이 나타나고있어 다른 언어들에 비해 다양한 율격이 사용되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이와 더불어 헝가리 정형시 율격의 또 하나의 특징은 이런 율격들이 개별 시에서 단독적으로 적용되기도 하지만 어떤 시에서는 둘혹은 세 가지 유형의 율격이 다양한 조합을 이루며 하나의 시에서 동시에 적용되기도 한다는 점이다. 예를 들면 음절율격과 강약율격, 음절율격과 장단율격, 강약율격과 장단율격, 그리고 어떤 경우에는 음절율격, 강약율격, 장단율격이 한 작품에서 동시에 보여 진다. 이렇게 헝가리 정형시에 적용되는 율격의 유형이 다른 여타 언어에 비해 다양하게 나타나는 이유는 무엇보다도 헝가리어의 음운론적 특징에서 기인한 것으로 판단된다. 헝가리 단어의 첫음절에 강세가 오는 언어적 특징은 강약율의 적용을 가능케 하였고, 헝가리어의모음구조에서 장모음과 단모음의 대칭은 장단율격을 적용을 가능케 했으며 각 음소의 모음적 성격과 자음적 성격의 명확한 구분은 음절 율격 적용의 가능성을 열어주었다. 이러한 헝가리어의 언어적 특징이 한데 어우러져 헝가리 정형시의 율격구조를 형성하고 있으며 이러한 율격구조는 동시에 헝가리 정형시의 특징을 잘 보여준다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the metric genres applied to Hungarian rhymed verses and their characteristics. Since meters belong to basic elements that give works rhythms and regularity in rhymed verses, the inspection of metrical structure is also to grasp the structures and features of Hungarian rhymed verses. In addition, since meters consist of phonological features of a language, the study of meters also enables to grasp the phonological characteristics of the language. In looking into the metrical structure of Hungarian rhymed verses, it would be necessary in advance to review the conceptual definitions, kinds and characteristics of meters. Accordingly, this study considers the various views of scholars, classifies the kinds of meters found in Hungarian rhymed verses based on J.Lotz's theory most widely recognized, and then examines the characteristics of each meter. Similar to Lotz, Hungarian scholars divide meters into 4 types of szótagszám (number of syllables), hangsúly (strength of sound), időtartam (length of sound) and hanglejtés (height of sound). The application of various meters is one of the most striking features of meters in Hungarian rhymed verses. While one or two kinds of meters are generally applied to the writing of poetry, dynamic, durational and syllabic meters are found in Hungarian rhymed verses, which shows that various meters are applied to Hungarian rhymed verses, as compared to those written in other languages. In addition, the meters of Hungarian rhymed verses are also characterized by the fact that such meters are independently applied to rhymed verses, but compositely appear in many ones. In particular, dynamic and durational meters sometimes appear in one work at the same time, and syllabic and dynamic meters sometimes are also applied together. Above all, it is judged to be due to the characteristics of Hungarian language that the meters applied to Hungarian rhymed verses are so various in kind, as compared to those written in other languages. It enables to apply dynamic meter that stress is put on the first syllable of each Hungarian word; it enables to apply durational meter that long and short vowels are symmetrical with each other in the vowel structure of Hungarian; and it enables to apply syllabic meter that each phoneme has vowel and consonantal characters clearly divided. Like this, the linguistic characteristics of Hungarian form the metrical structure of Hungarian rhymed verses, which composes the characteristics of Hungarian poems at the same time.
