폴란드 출생 의례에 나타난 기독교와 민간 신앙 고찰

국문 초록

어느 사회에서나 마찬가지로 아이를 낳는다는 것은 새로운 생명을 창조하는 것으로， 후손이 세상에 나온다는 기쁨과 함께 출산한 아이가 건강하게 자라길 바라기 때문에 많은 주술과 정성이 따랐다 폴란드 전통 민속에서 출산 의례는 크게 잉태， 출산， 산후 몸조리 기간， 세례식， 첫돌로 나눌 수 있다 폴란드의 출산 의례도 다른 나라에서와 마찬가지로 신앙을 근간으로 하여 생성된 관습과 풍습에 의하여 형성됐다. 폴란드 출산 의례는 크게 다음과 같은 네 가지 목적 - 영태 출산 산후 몸조리를 위한 최상의 상황보장과 물질적， 정신적 변에서 올 수 있는 모든 재앙으로부터 임부와 신생아보호，그리고 임부，특히 산모가 끼칠 수 있는 해로운 영향으로부터 주위 환경을 보호하며，가족 공동체와 주변 사회조직이 신생아를 받아 들이고 하나로 합치는 것에서 유래 한다고 볼수있다. 19세기 폴란드 농민 계층의 출산 문화 모델은 주술적 성격을 갖던 토속 민간 신앙에 뿌리를 둔 관념， 금기， 준수사항， 의례 등이 기독교화 과정에서 도입된 개념， 준수사항， 종교적 의식과 상당할 정도로 뒤섞여있다고 할 수 있다. 10세기에 기독교가도입된이후폴란드민간신앙은교회에의해파괴되어갔으나， 기독교가 고대 슬라브 요소를 다수 흡수하면서 폴란드 민속은 기독교와 민간신앙이 혼재하는 양상을 띠기 시작했다. 하지만 20세기에 들어와 특히 제2차 세계대전 이후， 예전 전통 풍습과 관습은 급속히 사라져가기 시작했다. 출산 의례 또한 예외일수는 없어， 한때 중시되던 잉태와 출산 그리고 산후 몸조리 기간의 주술적 금기와 준수 사항이 그 위력을 현저히 상실했다. 전래하던 출산 풍속은 이제 “구태의연한 과장”으로만 인식됐을 뿐이다. 출산 자체와 신생아에 관한 풍속 (첫 목욕물， 태, 탯줄 등)도 사라져버렸다. 산후 몸조리 기간의 격리 풍습 또한 예외가 아니었다. 산모와 갓난아기를 방문하는 풍습이 남아있는 것은 사실이나, 이것 역시 그 성격이 상당할 정도로 바뀌었다. 세례식에 관한 풍습과 관례가 그래도 예전 요소를 많이 간직하고 있다. 계속하져 대부모 선정을 중시하며， 세례식 행사를 성대하게 치르는 것에 많은 신경을 썼다. 새로운 풍속도 등장하여， 성대한 잔치가 치러지던 아이의 성인식 행사가 무엇보다 폴란드 출산 의례에서 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나로 자리를 굳혀갔다.

영문 초록

Since giving birth to a child marks the beginning of a new life in every society, this event is followed by many incantations and celebrations. Traditional Polish birth rites are divided into five phases: conception, childbirth, postpartum rest period, baptism, and baby's first birthday. Like in other Cultures， Polish birth rites were formed based on religious customs and practices. Polish people have performed their birth rites for the following four reasons : creating the best birthing environment ; protecting mother-to-be and newborn baby from all physical and psychological disasters , protecting the environment of the delivery room from mother’s harmful effects ; encouraging warm welcome of the community the newborn baby belongs to. In the 19th century childbirth culture of Polish peasants, ideas, taboos, rules, and rituals, which are associated with indigenous folk beliefs, blended with Christian concepts, rules, and rites. While the introduction of Christianity into Poland in the 10th century destroyed traditional Polish folk beliefs, the Polish Church had embraced many of the ancient Slavic elements. However, after World War II , the Polish traditions and customs rapidly disappeared‘ The same was true with birth rites. Incantational taboos, which once projected a holy influence on pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum rest period, lost its obligatory nature. And the traditional birth rites were reduced to 『old-fashioned exaggerations』 . Customs associated with childbirth and newborn babies, such as keeping baby’s first bath water, placenta, umbilical cord, also vanished from Polish society. The custom of isolating mother and baby from community during postpartum rest period is not observed either. Though Polish people still observe the custom of visiting the house of newborn baby, its nature has changed significantly. What still has the elements of old customs is baptism. Even in present day Poland, parents pay much attention to selecting their child's godparent and they want to hold a big baptism ceremony for their child. New customs were also introduced in Poland. These days, coming-of-age ceremony has become the most important birth rite in Polish society.
