국문 초록

이 연구는 식민지 파시즘 도래기의 박태원 소설에 내재되어 있는 ‘기억’과 ‘시선’에 대한 검토를 바탕으로 그의 소설이 지닌 내적 형식을 규명하는 데 있다. 선행연구자들의 성과에서 알 수 있듯 박태원은 모더니즘(세태소설)과 리얼리즘(마르크시즘), 그리고 민족문학이라는 궤적을 그리며 문학을 창작한 작가이다. 그러나 우리는 한국문학의 식민지 파시즘 논의에 있어 에드워드 사이드가 적절하게 언급한 ‘제국주의의 경험’을 활용할 수 있다. 사실 제국주의와 식민지 양자는 과거에 책임자와 그 종속집단으로 나뉘어졌으나, 동시에 대화와 의사소통도 있었다. 이러한 대화는 정치적인 저항과 함께 문화적인 저항이라는 소통을 수반한 것이다. 정치적인 저항이 민족자결과 민족독립을 공통목표로 삼은 단체와 정당의 설립으로 표면화되었다면, 문화적 저항은 민족주의적 정체성 담론을 내면화시켰던 것이다. 소설가가 세계를 해석하고 인식하는 데 있어 그가 처한 역사적 위치에 따른 시선으로 작품을 형상화하는 것은 자명한 일이다. 소설가(지식인)에게 있어 세계의 재현과 그에 대한 인식은 직접적이든 간접적이든 역사적일 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 그런데 규율권력은 인간의 심리적 구조를 변화시킴으로써 모순된 방식으로 행동하는 힘, 즉 물질적 권력으로 작동한다. 따라서 소설가가 세계의 재현과 그에 대한 인식을 어떻게 기억하는가의 문제는, 소설가가 당대의 이데올로기를 어떤 방식으로 반영하는가의 문제와 같다. 본 연구가 파시즘 도래기에 문학 창작의 중심에 섰던 작가 박태원을 주목하는 이유가 여기에 있다. 박태원의 소설은 파시즘 도래기 식민지 조선의 희망과 절망을 작가의 ‘기억’과 ‘시선’으로 내면화시켜 식민지 근대 도시와 근대인의 일상성을 가치중립적으로 반영하고 있는 창이다. 이런 점에서 파시즘 도래기 박태원 소설의 내적형식을 ‘기억’과 ‘시선’을 규명하는 것은 1930년대 식민지 조선의 정체성을 확인하는 작업이 된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to investigate the novels of Park Tea Won through the study of ‘memory’ and ‘perspectives’. Previous research has shown that Modernism, Realism, and Nationalism are important themes in Park Tea Won’s works. To study fascism in Korean literature, we can use Edward W. Said’s “the experience of imperialsim” as a frame of reference. Although the imperialist and the colonized were in a adversary relationship, there was also conversation and communication between them. This kind of com- munication was met with political and cultural resistence. While the po- litical resistence was externalizedas the formation of a political party and the organization for self-determination and national independence, the cul- tural resistence was internalized as a discourse on the national identity. It is axiomatic that when a writer creates his works to analyze and under- stand the world around him, he does it with a perspective that reflects the historical circumstances. A writer cannot recreate and understand his world without direct or indirect historical references. However the disci- pline power functions as material power, transforming the psychic struc- ture of a human being. Therefore the way a writer formulates the world around him is a reflection of the ideology of the day. This is why this research focuses on Park Tea Won, who was a central literary figure during the fascist era. His novels serve as a window through which we can observe the colo- nial modern city and the values of people’s daily life, which internalized the hope and despair of Colonial Chosun during the fascist era. By stud- ying his works we can understand the social and cultural circumstances of Korea in the 30’s, as internalized in the memory and perspectives of his novels.
