All kinds of playings which arose autogenously in this country were experienced a series of reorganizing process with the shock of the enlightening discourse from the end of 19th century to the early era of 20th century.
『Meil-Sinmun』, one of the main newspapers which roled as production bases of the enlightening discourse didn"t deal with all the existing forms of customized playings as they were, but published only the games corresponding with the enlightening discourse from the people who wanted to enlighten the nation. Moreover, it attempted to prohibit some of them not suitable to a modern nation-state. The particular examples are the below.
First, the playings actually played were called a variety of the enlightening discourse as they were on newspaper. For example, playing soldiers, the typical mimicry and flying kites that could be seen everywhere were functioned as the medium of intentionally established situation to produce some particular enlightening discourse. Also, some mere quarrels caused by misunderstanding the playing place were thought as the general public"s internalizing process of the enlightening discourse.
playings are published only in accordance with the relation of the enlightening discourse and, necessarily, it led to the discourse to prohibit the existing playings.
In case of gambling games which were published most frequently was the must-prohibited playing to establish the modem nation-state. Newspapers publicized the necessity of prohibiting gambling games using the general-news column and the editorial column in narrative form, and emphasizing gamblers" tragic conclusion to express efficiently. In the other case of "ChehoyguK" - the biggest social issue in 1898 ~ 1899 - it was censured for the logic of prohibiting gambling games. Though "ChehoyguK" was the official profit enterprize authorized by the government and it indicated the poor finacial state of "Daehan empire" and the aspect of the view on playings being mixed between the modern age and the premodern.
In contrast to the articles about gambling games, other articles about deligent people emphasized happy endings. Deligence-emphasizing enlightenment strategy mythologized the deligent people"s happy endings and by them, it was expressed that deligence is the proper attitude to survive for a new age using the method of exemplification.
Sports meetings, picnics and beatings played by students who were in the new education, a point of the modem enlightenment, were admitted as the playings for deligent people.
In case of elegance, the reason why elegance enjoyed by deligent people was positive, but one enjoyed by the people who is not reponsible for their jobs is negative shows the dual attitude of the people who tried to civilize the nation, and they thought playings and jobs separately.
The other playing which must be prohibited like gambling games was a gang fight. It was extremely premodern and violent, and newspapers publicized logically the necessity of eradicating it by publishing the involved people"s name and the amount of financial loss in details. However, gang fights were different from the gambling games, because they were completely eradicated as Japanese Imperialism hold the monopoly of violence in the Korean Peninsula. That was because of the policy from Japanese Imperialism to remove the miliaristic spirit, and also because the mass of the people intemalized the logic of prohibiting the gang fight adhering enlightening discourse.
Thus, the playings appeared on the modern newspapers were transformed, prohibited, and eradicated by the civilization enlightening discourse, which led to a series of reorganizing processes.
