독일 출판산업의 동향과 전망

국문 초록

  독일의 출판시장은 수년간 안정적으로 성장을 지속해오고 있고 앞으로의 전망도 낙관적으로 평가되고 있다. 독일 출판이 지속적으로 성장할 수 있는 원동력에는 출판계와 서점계의 공생 논리와 공생 구조가 큰 기여를 하고 있다.
  이 연구의 목적은 독일 출판산업이 끊임없이 발전할 수 있는 근본적인 이유를 출판업계와 서점업계간의 신뢰를 바탕으로 한 협업과 공조에 있다고 규정을 하고 독일의 출판산업을 안정적으로 발전시키는 원동력인 협업사례 등을 살펴보려고 하였다. 업계가 공존하고 공생하는 모습을 여러 가지 예에서 볼 수 있는데 조직과 제도적인 부분에서는 서적상업협회, 도서정가법과 출판통계의 예에서 볼 수 있다. 서적상업협회에는 출판사, 서점 그리고 서적유통회사가 회원사로 소속되어 있기 때문에 출판관련문제를 업계끼리 협의해서 결정하기에 효율적이다. 도서정가제도 출판계와 서점계의 전폭적인 성원과 지지를 얻어서 법제화할 수 있었고 업계 간의 정보교환과 협조로 서적상업협회는 해마다 출판산업의 정확한 통계를 내고 있다. 이러한 조직이나 제도적인 장치이외에도 업계끼리의 도서관 납품규정과 반품에 대한 관례에서도 협업의 예를 찾아볼 수 있다. 앞으로 출판산업의 성장을 뒷받침할 오프라인서점 내 인터넷서점, 전체 텍스트 검색프로젝트, 오디오북, LG-Buch과 독일서적상업학교도 업계끼리 협업을 하는 좋은 모델이다. 업계끼리의 신뢰와 긴밀한 협조만이 출판산업을 지속적으로 성장시킬 수 있다는 교훈을 독일출판의 예에서 찾고자 했다.

영문 초록

  The publishing industry has continued steady growth for many years and has a bright outlook. The major driver of such stable growth is a close tie and cooperation between the publishing industry and booksellers.
  Assuming the strong collaboration of the two industries as the basis for the continued growth, the research focuses on various cases of the cooperation which led the stable growth of the German publishing industry. The symbiosis and co-existence is evidenced in many organizations and systems such as German Publishers & Booksellers Association, the fixed-price book sales system and annual publishing statistics.
  German Publishers & Booksellers Association has an efficient structure for discussing publishing industry issues, as it includes publishers, booksellers and book distributors as its members. It releases accurate statistics on the publishing industry helped by regular information sharing and strong cooperation. The fixed-price book sales system was enacted under a full support from both the publishing and booksellers industries.
  On top of such organization and system, the regulations on book supply to library and book returning practices also seek cooperation between industries. Other good examples include on-line bookstore for offline stores, the all-text search project and audio books. The study aims to point out through a number of examples in Germany that trust and strong collaboration are the right way to nurture a stable publishing industry.
