우수 고교생의 대학진학준비 교육과정으로서의 AP와 IB의 비교 연구

국문 초록

  세계화 시대에 교육과정은 점차 세계 통용이거나 세계적으로 우수한 높은 수준의 교육내용과 활동을 제공할 것을 요구받는다. 본 연구는 세계적으로 인정되고 있는 고교 졸업자의 대입 자격 교육과정이자 시험인 미국의 AP와 세계의 국제학교들이 택하는 IB에 대해 자세히 알아보고, 그 교육목표, 교육과정, 교수학습, 교육평가 및 결과 활용을 중심으로 상호 비교함으로써, 세계수준의 교육이 필요한 국내 고교 교육과정 개선에 시사점을 주기 위한 것이다. 연구의 방법은 주로 문헌연구, 방문면담, 전문가협의였다.
  두 교육 프로그램은 우수 고교생들이 선망하는 대학의 진학을 위한 대학 1학년 수준의 교육 내용과 활동을 제공하고 있다. AP는 시험만으로 이수를 보증하는데 반해, 2년간 정규 수업을 해야 하는 교육과정 기반인 IB는 교과 통합적 중핵 교육과정적 요소와 세계적 문화 이해의 관점을 가진 개방적 세계인과 자국민을 기르는데도 균형 잡힌 교육과정의 가능성을 보이고 있다. 우리나라에서도 사립고교와 사설학원을 중심으로 북미의 대학으로 유학가기 위한 AP가 수업과 시험 형태로 제공되어 왔으며, 정부에서는 평준화 정책을 보완하는 일환으로 한국형 대학과목선이수(AP) 제도를 도입하려는 노력을 지속해오고 있다. 또한 일부 외고나 국제고에서는 IB의 도입 가능성을 타진하고 있다. 우리의 고교 교육과정도 IB처럼 우수 학생이 자신의 적성과 진로에 맞는 선택과 집중을 통해 대학에 진학해서도 성공적으로 전공학습을 할 수 있는 기반을 마련해줄 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

  We are now living in the era of global age and it becomes to require more quality education which can be in more worldly common uses for children in each country. In this context this study was performed to investigate the characteristics of AP and IB (which are both equally considered high in their academic levels) by taking an comparative approach in regards to educational goals, curriculum, instruction, evaluation, and usages of testing results. Literature review, interview and consulting with related experts are primarily used as research methods in its process of the investigation.
  Both programs have much common with each other in the aspect of providing advanced earlier college level courses by which students can take advantages of credits to obtain an admission from privileged colleges. While AP is designed to turn in evidences indicating particular academic level once a student pass an exam, IB requires much longer period of two years" course work. IB is more distinctive in a sense that it includes perspectives of open-minded global/local citizens as a core belt in the forms of cross-curricular activities and international literacy inspired by balanced and diversified curriculum contents.
  In Korea, some preparatory classes of AP have been available at the private tutoring sites for students who have intention to get an admission from the North American universities. Recently Korean government seeks for a possibility of adjusted AP to the exited educational system. The paper argued that research findings imply the urgent need to set for AP so that it can enable high school students to get opportunities to learn some disciplines suited for early year college in a way of activating the principal of selection and concentration on the individual tracks.
