This thesis aims to study character building through his ideas of liturature and of man in "Dosan 12 Gok". In chapter two, "Dosan 12 Gok" was analyzed. On the premise that Sijo(時調) can give anyone excitement and one's own profit, Twe-ge pointed out that oriental songs were generally lewd and a man of complete virtue(君子) wouldn't think of and enjoy singing them. And he composed "Dosan 12 Gok" in Hangul(한글), so that humble people could sing them easily and peacefully. "Dosan 12 Gok" is what he wrote the inspirations occurred from and how to cultivate his mind through observing and touching everything, is composed twelve ones as connected songs(連時調), and is divided into the "6 Songs(六歌)" containing his will and the "6 Songs" containing his manner of cultivating his mind due to scholarship, of respecting nature, and of modeling the attitudes of old sages. And Twe-ge's idea of literature was examined. It is "the idea of the literature, gentleness and warmheartedness" or "the idea of the literature, the will as morality." He was not satisfied only with the literature itself and satisfied with the literature as the medium which developed and cultivated his mind. and 'Twe-ge's idea of man was considered. It is based on the thinking "God and Man are united(天人合一)" and on the human being with autonomy. In chapter four, I tried to bring up Twe-ge's character building in "Dosan 12 Gok" and to find out educational meaning there. The motive of composing "Dosan 12 Gok" itself is rooted in 'Twe-ge's idea of education. The 'mental culture' that the life loving nature, living with it, and in it as well as devoting himself to scholarship, cultivated his mind, the 'human equality' in which he composed "Dosan 12 Gok" in Hangul in order to awake humble people in his thought of equality, and 'recovery' of the humanity that human basic character is human nature could be each brought up in them. In chapter five, I finished this study with the summary and the conclusion. In order to activate the education of man, the essential perception of education must be changed. The aim of education should be based on the recovery of humanity, on the cultivation of man's true nature, not on the instrument to prepare for jobs and not on the meeting hobbies and needs of children.
