심원의 비교불교연구의 비교연구: 루만을 경유하여

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 심원의 비교불교연구가 갖는 장점과 한계를 드러내는 데 있다. 여기에서 심원의 비교불교연구란 「하이데거와 마음의 철학」(김형효, 2000b), 「하이데거와 화엄의 사유」(김형효, 2002), 「원효의 대승철학」(김형효, 2006), 「마음혁명」(김형효, 2007) 등을 의미하는데, 전자의 두 저서는 하이데거의 전기와 후기를 매개로 불교의 마음의 철학과 화엄의 사유를 통합적으로 이해하고자 한 것이고, 후자의 두 저서는 원효를 매개로 대승철학과 마음혁명의 연결을 시도한 것이다. 이에 이 논문에서는 이러한 심원의 시도를 루만의 체계이론에 비춰봄으로써 그 장점과 한계를 드러내고자하였는데, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 우선, 심원은 마음(불성 혹은 원효의 일심 및 일심지원)에 근거하여 양가성의 공존이란 역설을 탈역설화함으로써 동양적 연결의 사유를 설명하는데 성공하였다. 반면에 루만은 사회적 세계의 작동으로부터 인간을 철저하게 걸러내어 환경에 위치시켰을 뿐만 아니라, 불교의 마음 개념을 충분히 이해하지 못한 것으로 보인다. 대신 루만은 자신의 고유한 체계이론을 창안하여 구별 작동과 그로 인한 역설에만 근거하여 동일성의 역설을 처리하는데 성공함으로써 구별의 사유를 일반이론으로 구체화하는데 성공하였다. 이렇게 볼 때, 심원의 비교불교학과 루만의 체계이론 사이의 차이는 명백하다. 그 둘은 한편으로는 각자 자신의 고유한 맹점을 내포하고 있지만, 동시에 서로 상대방의 결여 부분을 보충할 수 있는 잠재력을 내포하고 있다. 그러나 혹은 바로 그러한 차이점 때문에 그 둘은 또 다른 차원의 생산적 만남을 낳을 수도 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to reveal the advantages and limitations of Simwon(心遠 金炯孝)'s comparative Buddhist research. Simwon's comparative Buddhist research refers to 「Heidegger and the Philosophy of the Mind」 (Kim Hyung-hyo, 2000b), 「Heidegger and the Thought of Hwaeom」 (Kim Hyung-hyo, 2002), 「Wonhyo's Mahayana Philosophy」 (Kim Hyung-hyo, 2006), and 「Mind Revolution」 (Kim Hyung-hyo, 2007). The former two books attempted to understand the Buddhist Mind's Philosophy and the Thought of Hwaeom in an integrated manner as if an integrated understanding about Heidegger's early and late period studies, and the latter two books attempted to connect the Mahayana Philosophy and the Mind Revolution through Wonhyo. Therefore, this paper attempted to reveal Simwon's strengths and limitations by reflecting these attempts on Luhmann's system theory, and the results are as follows. First of all, Simwon successfully explained the reason for the oriental connection by debunking the paradox of the coexistence of ambivalence based on the mind (one heart and one heart support of Buddha-nature or Wonhyo). On the other hand, Luhmann not only thoroughly filtered humans out of the workings of the social world and placed them in the environment, but also did not seem to fully understand the Buddhist concept of mind. Instead, Luhmann successfully developed his own system theory and successfully handled the paradox of identity based solely on the operation of distinction and the resulting paradox, thereby concreting the idea of distinction into a general theory. From this point of view, the distinction between Simwon's comparative Buddhist studies and Luhmann's system theory is obvious. On the one hand, each of them has its own blind spots, but at the same time, they have the potential to make up for each other's shortcomings. However, because of those differences, the two could lead to another level of productive encounters.
