유아기 교육격차에 관한 언론 기사의 토픽 모델링 분석

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 언론 기사 분석을 통해 사회구성원들이 공유하는 유아기 교육격차의 개념과 논점의 흐름을 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2003년부터 2023년까지 보도된 1,525건의 기사에서 5,241종 31,222개의 단어를 분석했다. 7년을 주기로 시기별 출현 빈도와 토픽모델링 분석을 하였으며, 토픽 구성을 검토하여 시기별로 5개의 토픽모형을 채택하고 토픽명을 부여했다. 그 결과, 20여 년의 기사에서 많이 등장하는 단어는 ‘유치원’, ‘어린이집’, ‘교육’, ‘유보통합’이었으며, ‘교육청’과 ‘부모’, ‘유보통합’, ‘교육’이 핵심어로 사용되었다. 2003년-2009년에는 ‘인구구조 변화와 얽힌 교육격차’, ‘교육수요자를 위한 행정적 지원’, ‘공교육 체제 정비를 통한 격차 해소 노력’, ‘취약계층을 위한 부처의 움직임’, ‘우리 아이들과 부모의 삶 조망’이, 2010년-2016년에는 ‘국제 동향으로 들여다보는 교육 불평등’, ‘교육과 복지로 접근하는 격차’, ‘격차 해소를 위한 기관차원의 지원’, ‘교육에 대한 국가책임’, ‘교육 지원으로 대응하는 인구구조 위기’가, 2017년-2023년에는 ‘유보통합을 통한 격차 해소 노력’, ‘통합체계의 추진 방안 모색’, ‘정부와 지자체를 잇는 정책 실천’, ‘유보통합 실현의 격차’, ‘영유아 발달 격차 해소를 위한 지원’ 토픽이 도출되었다. 본 연구는 우리 사회의 유아기 교육격차 논의가 저출생과 양극화의 사회구조적 특성을 반영하면서 공립과 사립, 교육과 보육으로 양립된 기관 간 격차에 주목하여 이루어져 왔음을 발견하였다.

영문 초록

This study analysed media articles to understand the concept of the early childhood education gap and the debate surrounding it. For this, from 1,525 articles published between 2003 and 2023, 31,222 words of 5,241 types were analysed. Word frequencies were examined over seven years, with five topic models derived for each time period using topic modeling. The results of this study were as follows. First, 'kindergarten', 'daycare center', 'education', 'ECEC integration', and 'office of education' appeared frequently. Furthermore, the keywords 'office of education', ‘parents’, 'ECEC integration' and ‘education’ were used. Second, the topic model of 2003-2009 consisted of 'Gap entangled with changing demographics', 'Administrative support', 'Efforts to bridge by public system', 'Ministries' for the vulnerable populations', and 'Perspective on the lives of children and parents'. Third, 2010-2016, there were 'Inequality in international trends', 'Access to education and welfare', 'Institutional support for closing', 'National responsibility', and 'Responding to the demographic crisis with supports' topics. Fourth, 2017-2023, there were 'Efforts to close through ECEC integration', 'Ways to promote the integrated system', 'Central and local government policies', 'Gaps in realizing integration', and 'Support for development of children'. This study found that discussions of early childhood educational gap in Korea have focused on institutional gap between public and private, education and childcare, reflecting the socio-structural characteristics of low birth rates and polarisation.
