光州 十信寺址 석불과 석비의 조성 시기와 배경

국문 초록

현재 광주 십신사지에서 이전한 석불과 석비가 광주역사민속박물관에 소장되어 있다. 이 석불과 석비는 독특한 조각 기법과 양식을 함유하고 있어 이색적인 인상을 주고 있다. 석불은 기둥처럼 제작한 표면에 간략하게 조각하였으며, 석비는 귀부와 비신 등을 갖춘 전형적인 양식으로 구비하였다. 이러한 십신사지 석불과 석비는 여러 자료를 검토한 결과 같은 사역에 마주 보도록 동시기에 조성한 것으로 보인다. 이 중에 석불은 화순 운주사지 석불들과 닮았으며, 조각 기법이나 양식은 몽골을 비롯한 초원지대의 석인상들과 친연성을 보이고 있어 주목된다. 그리고 석비는 불정존승다라니와 불정심인 도상을 비신에 새겼으며, 그동안 조선 초기인 1437년에 건립된 것으로 알려져 왔다. 그런데 귀부의 독특한 조각 기법, 귀갑문의 문양, 다라니 신앙의 전개 양상, 불교계의 동향 등으로 보아 고려 후기에 건립된 것으로 추정된다. 따라서 건립 시기는 1437년보다 120년 앞선 1317년으로 편년하는 것이 합리적일 것으로 사료되었다. 고려시대 밀교의 다라니 신앙을 보여준다는 점에서 귀중한 유산이다.

영문 초록

Currently, the stone Buddha and stone monument relocated from Sipsinsa Temple Site in Gwangju are housed in the Gwangju Museum of History and Folklore. This stone Buddha and stone monument contain unique carving techniques and styles, giving an unusual impression. The stone Buddha was simply carved on a surface made like a pillar, and the stone monument was prepared in a typical style with Turtle and Bisin. As a result of reviewing various data, these stone Buddhas and stone monuments at Sipsinsa Temple Site appear to have been created at the same time to face the same ministry. Among them, the stone Buddha resembles the stone Buddhas of Unjusa Temple Site in Hwasun, and the carving technique and style are noteworthy because they are related to stone statues in the grasslands, including Mongolia. In addition, the stone monument engraved uṣṇīṣavijaya dhāraṇī and Buddhist image on the monument, and it has been known that it was built in 1437, the early Joseon Dynasty. However, it is presumed to have been built in the late Goryeo Dynasty, considering the unique carving technique of Turtle, the pattern of Gwigapmun, the development of the Darani faith, and the trend of the Buddhist community. Therefore, it was thought that it would be reasonable to divide the construction period to 1317 120 years ahead of 1437. It is a valuable heritage in that it shows the Darani faith of esoteric Buddhism during the Goryeo Dynasty.
