국문 초록

이 연구는 중등교사 연구자가 연구직으로 나아가는 계기와 과정을 이해하고자 교직에서 연구직으로 전환한 세 중등교사 출신 교과교육 연구자의 교직 경험과 전환 경험의 의미를 탐구했다. 이 연구의 세 참여자는 중등교직 경력 10년 이상이며 연구직으로 전환한 이들이다. Clandinin과 Connelly(1990)의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 사용해 세 참여자 내러티브에서 이들의 경험을 다음의 다섯 주제로 구성했다. 중등교직 현실에서 저경력 교사가 직면한 예상치 못한 복병과 내적 갈등, 대학원 공부로 얻은 교과교사로서의 질적 성장과 도약, 이론과 실제를 이분화 하여 서로 상반된 위계에 놓고자 하는 교직과 학계에서 교사 연구자의 내적 갈등, 교직과 학계 사이에 낀 교사 연구자 정체성, 연구직 전환으로 얻은 것과 잃은 것 등이다. 이 연구로 중등교사가 연구직으로 전환하는 경력 경로를 이해할 수 있었으며, 동시에 중등교육 현장에서 교사 연구자로 지속가능한 삶을 살 수 있는 여건 조성이 필요함을 간접적으로 시사 받을 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study inquires about the narratives of three researchers who had been secondary school teachers for more than 10 years in subject matter education, for the purpose of understanding their transitioning momentum and processes into research positions. The narratives of these three participants were constructed based on the narrative inquiry method of Clandinin and Connelly (1990), thereby five themes were constructed as follows: 1) the unexpected difficulties and internal conflicts as novice teachers when confronting problematic realities of the secondary school teaching profession; 2) the qualitative growth and progress through the postgraduate study as teachers in subject matter education; 3) the internal conflicts as teacher-researchers in a somewhat dichotomous situation where theory is superior to practice in academia and yet the opposite in secondary schools; 4) the teacher-researchers’ identity squeezed in between teaching profession and academia; 5) the gains and losses resulting from transitioning into research positions. The study is to help understand the career paths of transitioning from secondary school teachers to research positions. It also suggests that it is necessary to create appropriate environments for teacher-reseachers’ sustainable growth in the field of secondary education.
