척수장애 청년의 의료사회복지사와 함께하는 사회복귀 경험에 대한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 척수장애 청년이 의료사회복지사와 함께하는 병원 기반 사회복귀과정에서의 경험을 살펴보고 그 경험의 의미를 이해하는 데에 있다. 이에 연구 참여자의 경험을 시간성, 상호작용, 상황의 3차원적 내러티브 탐구 공간 안에서 살펴보았다. 연구방법은 Clandinin과 Connelly가 제시한 내러티브 탐구방법 절차를 따라 수행하였으며, 연구대상은 최근 1~2년 사이에 사회복귀를 경험한 20대 남녀 척수장애 청년 각 1명으로 이들 모두는 자발적으로 심층면담에 참여하였다. 연구 결과 척수장애 청년들은 사회복귀 경험을 ‘쉽지 않지만 장애를 수용하고 일상으로 나아가는 과정’으로 인식하고 있었다. 연구 참여자들이 도출한 척수장애 청년의 의료사회복지사와 함께하는 사회복귀의 의미는 ‘일상을 회복할 수 있는 그림 그리기’, ‘휠체어를 타고 운동할 수 있음을 발견’, ‘주거와 이동 편의의 중요성 인식’, ‘끝이 아닌 시작’으로 해석하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구 결과를 토대로 사회로 복귀한 척수장애인이 일상에서 존엄한 자립을 지속적으로 실현할 수 있도록 실제적인 지원방안을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of young people with spinal cord disabilities in the hospital-based social return process with medical social workers and to understand the meaning of the experiences. Therefore, the experiences of the study participants were examined in a three-dimensional narrative inquiry space of timeliness, interaction, and situation. The study method was carried out according to the narrative inquiry method procedure presented by Clandinin and Connelly, and the subjects of the study were one young man and woman in their 20s who had experienced social return in the last 1-2 years, all of whom voluntarily participated in in-depth interviews. As a result of the study, young people with spinal cord disabilities recognized the experiences of returning to society as “not easy, but a process of accepting disabilities and moving forward to their daily lives.” The meaning of social return with medical social workers of young people with spinal cord disabilities derived by the study participants was interpreted as “drawing a picture that can restore daily life,” “discovering that you can exercise in a wheelchair,” “recognizing the importance of housing and mobility convenience,” and “starting, not ending.” Finally, based on the results of this study, practical support measures were suggested so that people with spinal cord disabilities who have returned to society can continue to realize dignity and independence in their daily lives.
