초임 사회복지사의 클라이언트 고독사 경험 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회복지 현장에서 사회복지사로 일을 시작한 초임 사회복지사들의 클라이언트 고독사 경험에 대해 Glaser(1992)의 근거이론적 접근을 시도한 질적 연구로서 죽음을 다루는 사회복지사의 경험을 심층적으로 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 클라이언트의 고독사를 경험한 10명의 사회복지사를 연구참여자로 선정하여 생전의 클라이언트와의 관계, 죽음 직후의 심리⋅정서적 경험, 죽음 이후의 대처전략과 지원, 적응경험 등을 살펴보았다. 연구결과 초임 사회복지사의 클라이언트 고독사 경험은‘관계의 재발견’,‘처참한 죽음 앞의 무력함’,‘일로 처리되는 죽음’,‘감정적 대처전략’,‘경험의 파편들을 수용하고 회복하기’라는 5개의 핵심범주, 19개의 하위구성요소로 분석되었다. 고독사를 경험한 사회복지사는 공통적으로“삶과 죽음의 모순적 공존”이라는 기본적인 사회심리적 과정(basic social psychological process : BSP)을 겪는다. 초임 사회복지사는 클라이언트의 죽음을 통해 삶을 느끼고 발견하거나 재해석하는 모순적인 과정을 겪는다. 홀로 쓸쓸히 죽어가는 고독사라는 외로운 죽음 경험처럼 초임 사회복지사도 외로운 적응을 경험하고 있음을 발견하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 사회복지사의 자기돌봄 및 사회복지 현장에서의 지원체계를 포함한 실천적 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study is a qualitative study using Glaser(1992)'s grounded theory on the experience of client solitude death of new social workers in social welfare field, and explored the experience of new social workers in depth. 10 social workers who experienced the lonely death of clients were selected. The relationship with clients before death, psychological and emotional experiences immediately after death, coping strategies and support after death and adaptation experiences were examined. As a result of the study, 5 core categories and 19 subcomponents were derived. The client solitude experience of new social workers was analyzed as key categories of ‘rediscovery of relationship’, ‘helplessness in the face of a tragic death’, ‘death as work’, ‘emotional coping strategy’, and ‘embracing and recovering fragments of experience’. It was analyzed that social workers who experienced lonely death experienced a basic social-psychological process(BSP) of “contradictory coexistence of life and death.” The new social worker goes through a contradictory process of feeling, discovering, or reinterpreting life through the death of the client. Just like the lonely death experience of a lonely dying alone, it was found that the new social worker was experiencing lonely adaptation. Based on these research results, practical suggestions including self-care of social workers and support systems in social welfare field were presented.
