미래교육을 위한 과학관의 역할 탐색 - 과학관 이용 경험 및 공간 수요 조사를 중심으로 -

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 관람객의 과학관 이용 경험 및 미래교육을 위한 공간 수요를 분석함으로써 미래지향적인 과학관의역할을 논의하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 과학관 관람객 만족도, 과학관 이용실태, 과학관 정책에 대한 선행연구를 검토하여 이용 경험에 관한 9문항과 공간수요에 관한 6문항으로 구성된 온라인 설문지를 개발하였다. 설문 응답은 학생, 교사, 일반인 358 명으로부터 수집되었다. 분석 결과, 최근 1년 동안 과학관을 방문한 적이 없거나 5회 이하로 방문했다고 응답한 비율이 89.9% 로 높게 나타났다. 과학관에 가족 및 친지와 방문하는 관람객의 비율이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 교통수단은 자가용을 이용하는 경향이 두드러졌다. 과학관 방문을 결정짓는 요인으로서 전시 콘텐츠 구성과 체험교육 프로그램이 중요한 것으로 나타난반면, 지출비용과 편의시설은 덜 중요한 요소로 드러났다. 미래교육을 위한 과학관 공간 구성에 대해서는 다양한 체험과 교육활동이 가능한 공간 및 4차 산업혁명 기술에 대한 식견을 넓힐 수 있는 공간에 대한 관심이 매우 높은 것으로 나타났다. 특히 첨단기술을 활용하여 과학 탐구 활동에 참여할 수 있는 지능형 과학 실험 공간에 대한 관심이 높았으며, 인공지능, 빅데이터, AR/VR과 같은 첨단산업과 연계된 공간에 대한 수요도 높게 나타났다. 본 연구에서 제시한 다양한 과학관 관람객의경험과 요구는 미래교육을 위한 과학관의 발전 방향을 설정하는 데 중요한 기초자료의 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate the role of science centers for future education by examining the experiences of visitors at science centers and the demand for space. For the purpose, an online survey with 15 questions was created after reviewing prior studies on visitor satisfaction, visitor experiences, and science center policies. The survey data were collected from 358 students, teachers, and general public. 89.9% of respondents said they have not visited a science center in the previous year or have visited less than five times. The survey showed that the largest number of visitors visited science centers with family and relatives, and most of them traveled by car. For the key factors in deciding to visit science centers, exhibit contents and experience-based education programs were found to be important while expenses and convenience facilities tended to be less important. In terms of the space of science center for future education, it showed that there is a strong interest in the space to allow diverse educational activities, as well as the space to expand the understanding of the fourth industrial revolution technology. Especially, the interest is particularly strong in the desire for a venue to participate in scientific inquiry activities using advanced technology, such as the ‘intelligent science lab’. The demand was also running high for spaces related to hightech industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of science center spaces for future education based on the understanding of the experiences and demands of science center visitors.
