세대별 성인의 세계시민의식 관련 요인 분석: 사회자본과 위협인식을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 성인의 세계시민의식 영향요인을 사회자본과 위협인식이라는 두 가지 차원에서 살펴보고 세대별로 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 분석자료로 한국인의 가치관·의식 조사 2019 데이터를 활용하였으며, 영향요인을 확인하기 위해서 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청년층, 장년층, 노년층의 세계시민의식은 통계적으로 유의한 평균 차이가 없었으나, 세계시민의식의 영향요인은 세대별로 상이하였다. 둘째, 개인특성요인으로 대도시 거주는 모든 세대의 성인의 세계시민의식에 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 사회자본 차원에서 외국인 신뢰는 모든 세대의 성인의 세계시민의식 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로나 나타났다. 셋째, 위협인식은 장년층에서 경제적 양극화 인식이 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 장년층의 시민참여는 세계시민의식에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 교육수준에서는 통계적 유의성이 나타나지 않았다. 최근 성인 단계에서 시민의식이나 세계시민의식을 개선하거나 향상하기 위해서는 형식교육보다 평생교육체제에서의 비형식 또는 무형식 학습을 통한 개입이 필요하며, 이를 위한 성인 대상 세계시민교육 프로그램을 개발에서 세대별의 특성이 고려되어야 함을 시사한다. 또한 단순한 국제 이해나 다문화 이해를 넘어서서 외국인이나 이민자에 대한 사회적 공감을 기를 수 있는 교육 프로그램에 외국인 신뢰를 형성하는 교육활동과 경험이 설계될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzed the factors influencing adults’ global citizenship by a generation with two perspectives of social capital and threat perception. Data from the Korean Value and Consciousness Survey 2019 were used for analysis, and multiple regression was applied to investigate the influencing factors. The results are as follows. First, there was no difference in the average global citizenship of adults by generation but the influencing factors of global citizenship were varied by generation. Second, residing in large cities had a negative effect on global citizenship in all generations regarding personal background features. Besides, the trust in foreigners in all generations played a role as a key influence variable on global citizenship in terms of social capital. Third, the threat perception had a negative effect on the awareness of economic polarization from the elderly. In addition, the citizen participation of the elderly had a positive effect on global citizenship. On the other hand, there was no statistical significance at the education level. This implies that informal learning in the lifelong ongoing education would be necessary rather than formal education to foster citizenship or global citizenship in the adult stage. It also suggests that the characteristics of each generation should be considered in designing programs for fostering the global citizenship of adults. Furthermore, educational activities and experiences that could help in the formation of trust in foreigners should be designed in educational programs for fostering social sympathy for foreigners or immigrants beyond simple understanding for international or multicultural traits.
