국문 초록

본 논문은 退溪가 이해하는 人心道心 개념이 무엇인지를 살펴보고자 하는데 있다. 퇴계의 인심도심 이해방식은 四七論辯에서 情을 이해하는 방식과 맞닿아 있는데, 본 논문에서는 퇴계가 생각하는 ‘理’, ‘情’, ‘欲’ 등의 개념을 중심으로 퇴계가 이해하는 人心道心 개념을 살펴보고자 한다. 인심도심 개념은 유학 전통에 있어 오래된 개념이다. 󰡔書經󰡕｢大禹謨｣편에서 ‘인심은 위태롭고 도심은 은미하다’는 구절에서 시작된 인심도심의 개념은 宋代 유학을 거쳐 조선성리학의 핵심 논변으로 발전해왔다. 인심도심에 대한 이해가 중요한 이유는 도심은 좋은 것, 인심은 나쁜 것으로 보는 이분법적인 사고와 함께 도심을 우리와는 상관없는 어떤 초월성을 지향하는 목적론적인 태도에 대한 재검토를 위해서이다. 퇴계는 오늘날까지 이어져오는 만연한 목적론적인 사고, 이분법적인 사고 등에 대해 올바로 생각하기를 강조한 대표적 유학자이다. 사단칠정논변에서 순선할 수밖에 없는 性과 情에 대한 퇴계의 이해방식은 퇴계의 人心道心 이해방식에 실마리를 가져다주고 있으며, 이러한 퇴계의 인심도심 이해를 바탕으로 오늘날 우리는 어떠한 태도로 학문을 하고 살아가야 하는지에 대해 본고를 통해 다함께 생각해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to investigate the concept of human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心) that Toegye(退溪) defines. Toegye(退溪) s way of understanding about human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心) is similar to that of four moral origin(四端) and seven passions(七情), and this paper investigates them focusing on ‘Principle(理)’, ‘Emotion(情)’, ‘Desire(欲)’. The concept of human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心) has very long history on Confucianism. The concept of human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心) which started from ｢Daewoomo(大禹謨)｣󰡔Book of History(書經)󰡕 has developed as a key argument of Joseon- Dynasty s Neo-confucianism from Song-dynasty s Neo-confucianism. The reason why it is important to understand the human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心) lies in reviewing the teleological attitude which intends moral-mind(道心) is good and human-mind(人心) bad thing with dichotomous thinking Toegye is the representative Confucian who stressed to reason properly the teleological thinking and dichotomous thinking that have transmitted until these days. Toegye(退溪) s way of understanding about inevitable nature and emotion in four-seven debate provides a clue to understanding the human-mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心). Through Toegye(退溪) s way of understanding about human- mind(人心) and moral-mind(道心), I suggest that we think about how to learn and how to live based on this paper.
