불교 진각종 도제교육의 방향

국문 초록

진각종은 현대사회에 부합하는 새로운 불교를 제창하면서 종단의 조직과 제도 운영의 측면에서 기존의 승단과 차별화하고 있으며, 출가자 교육이나 승원교육과 달리 특성화된 도제교육 제도를 운영해 오고 있다. 그러나 시대적인 변화와 종단사정의 변모 등을 고려한다면 이제는 새로운 상황에 적합한 도제교육의 방향을 생각해 보아야 한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 진각종 창종의 정신에 적합한 이상적인 교화자상을 지속적으로 정립함으로써 새로운 교화자이며, 승단의 구성원을 충원하는 예비 교화자인 도제교육의 방향을 설정할 수 있다. 그러므로 이상적인 교화자상의 확립을 통하여 구체적인 도제교육의 이념적인 방향을 생각해 보고, 실천적인 교육방안을 위한 제도적인 준비와 교육과정의 정립을 시도해 보았다. 진각종의 도제교육과 관련하여 종단에서 현재 시행 중인 제도의 변화와 관련한 부분과 앞으로 도제교육의 중요성을 실천할 수 있는 몇 가지의 방향을 제시한다면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 진각종 교화자의 위상을 명확하게 설정할 필요가 있다. 진각종의 교화자는 기존의 승단과는 구분되는 재가주의의 입장을 표명하기에 이에 적합한 위상이 정비되어야 한다. 둘째, 진각종은 새로운 불교로서 항상 현재시점에 유용한 불교의 전문포교 방안을 지속적으로 계발함으로써 존립의 의미를 유지할 수 있다. 이를 위하여 현대적인 도제교육의 체계적이고 효과적인 교육 방안이 수립되어야 한다. 셋째, 진각종은 진각대학원과 위덕대학교를 비롯한 종립학교를 설립하였으며, 이를 활용하는 도제교육의 제도적인 정비가 필요하다. 넷째, 진각종 도제교육의 수행과 교육내용을 체계적으로 정리하고, 이를 바탕으로 하는 수행지도와 교과과정의 운영을 필요로 한다. 다섯째, 이와 같은 취지에 부합하는 도제교육을 달성하기 위해서는 기존의 종헌이나 종법에 규정되어 있는 내용을 새롭게 개정함으로써 실질적인 도제교육이 실천될 수 있다.

영문 초록

Jingak Buddhist order differentiates itself from existing traditional and modern Buddhist orders in the aspect of organization and system operation by proposing a new Buddhism consistent with modern society. And, it has operated the specialized monk education system of traditional Buddhist orders separate from that for would-be monks or at the temple. However, it is time that the direction of monk education for new environment be considered based on the changes of times and Buddhist orders. Above all, for this, an ideal image of culturalist suitable for the foundation spirit of Jingak Buddhist order should continuously be established, which makes the direction in education for apprentices to supplement the members of Jingak Buddhist order with the roles of new culturalist judged. Also, it is time that a specific ideological direction of education for apprentices be sought with the consideration of such culturalist image. The system preparation and education process establishment for practical education plan was attempted in this process. System changes being applied in education for apprentices of Jingak Buddhist order and several suggestions of the direction for the future to fulfill the significance of education of apprentices are as follows; First of all, a definite image of Jingak Buddhist order culturalist is needed to set up since such culturalist is distinct from the one of existing traditional Jogye Buddhist order. The status to fit the fundamental announcement of secularism position should be organized. Second, Jingak Buddhist order could maintain the meaning of existence by persistent development of specialized Buddhism propagation way useful without exception at this point of time. Accordingly, the systematic and effective plan of modern apprentices education should be devised.
