중국 석유사 연구의 현황과 과제

국문 초록

본고는 근대 중국의 석유에 관한 선행연구를 ①민국시대~1970년대, ②1980~1990년대, ③2000~2010년대 이상 세 시기로 구분하여 검토해봄으로써 중국 석유사 연구의 가능성을 가늠해보았다. 전체적으로 보면 근대 중국 석유사 연구는 오랜 기간 자료와 연구의 축적을 통해 이제 막 본격적인 연구가 진행되는 단계에 이르렀다고 평가할 수 있다. 근대 중국 석유사 연구는 민국시기와 중화인민공화국 초기에도 일부 이루어졌지만, 2000~2020년 기간 집중적으로 진척되었다. 2000~2010년대 중국에서 석유사 연구가 활성화되기 시작한 배경에는 석유사 연구의 환경이 이전에 비해 크게 개선되었고 중국이 경제성장을 거듭하면서 석유의 확보가 경제는 물론 안보와 직결되는 문제로 사회적인 인식이 제고된 요인이 작용하고 있었다. 또 2000~2020년 기간 중국이 ‘세계 속의 중국’과 ‘국제화’를 추구하는 데에 만족하지 않고 ‘세계에 영향을 미치는 중국’을 구현하는 방향으로 대외정책을 전환시킨 점 역시 석유사 연구가 활성화되는 데에 일정하게 영향을 미쳤다. 앞으로 근대 중국 석유사 연구가 심화되기 위해서는 사료 방면에서 다음과 같은 보완이 이루어져야 한다. 첫째, 1차 자료의 발굴이 지속되어야 한다. 둘째, 기존에 출판된 자료집에서 석유사 관련 자료를 추출할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 각종 정부기관물이나 年鑒, 地方誌, 신문, 잡지, 연구저서 등의 자료도 시급히 정리를 요한다. 넷째, 영미 국가의 외교 아카이브와 아시아-태평양 지역에서 영업했던 메이저 석유회사 자료의 소재 파악과 정리도 반드시 병행되어야 하는 현안이다.

영문 초록

This paper examined the possibility of research on petroleum history by dividing the prior research on oil in modern China into three periods: ①the period of the Republic of China∼1970s, ②1980∼1990s, and ③2000∼2010s. Overall, it can be assessed that modern Chinese oil history research has just reached the stage of full-fledged research through the accumulation of data and research for a long time. Research on the history of modern Chinese oil began in the period of the Republic of China and partly carried out in the People’s Republic of China period, but it was intensively studied between 2000 and 2020. The following factors were working in the background of the activation of oil history research in China in the 2000-2010s. First, the environment for research on oil history has improved significantly compared to before. Second, as China continued to grow its economy, securing oil was a problem that is directly related to the economy as well as security, which has led to increased social awareness. In addition, the shift in foreign policy to realize “China that affects the world” rather than pursuing of “China in the world” and “globalization” between 2000 and 2020 also contributed to revitalizing the research on oil history. In order for modern Chinese oil history research to become more active in the future, the following complements must be made in the field of historical sources. First, excavation of primary data should be continuously carried out. Second, it is necessary to extract oil historyrelated data from already published archives. Third, it is urgently necessary to organize materials such as various government data, almanacs, local chronicles, newspapers, magazines, and research books. Fourth, the diplomatic archives of British and American countries and the identification and organization of materials for major oil companies operating in the Asia-Pacific region are also prior issues.
