국문 초록

형식담은 다른 설화들과 달리 이야기 규범을 문제시한다. 이 논문은 형식담의 수용 자들 즉, 비물질적 자원인 이야기 규범을 공유하는 공동체에 대한 연구로, 형식담을 향유하는 공동체가 어떤 이야기 규범을 공유하고 있는지, 그것을 공유하는 과정이나 방법은 어떤 것인지에 대해 논하고자 한다. 먼저 이 논문에서는 기존논의에 힘입어 형 식담을 크게 세 가지로 구분한다. (1) 마무리 규범 파괴 유형은 이야기의 끝을 맺는 형 식적 관습을 문제시하고 (2) 세계 구성의 규범 파괴 유형은 이야기 내부의 인물이나 상황 설정의 관습을 드러낸다. 그리고 (3) 두 가지 유형이 혼합되는 경우도 있다. 이들의 공통점은 현실 세계의 침입을 허용하거나 현실 세계와의 비교를 통해 허구 세계의 독립성과 통일성을 문제 삼고, 그 완전성과 완결성을 의문시한다는 것이다. 허 구 세계의 완전성과 완결성을 무의식적으로 받아들였던 청자들은 형식담의 연행 과정 에서 놀라움을 느끼게 되는데, 이는 기대의 위반이 드러날 때, 기대가 예상과 다르게 펼쳐질 때 가지는 정서이다. 기대를 가지게 하고 그것을 저버리는 형식담의 화자들은 청중에게 일종의 신뢰할 수 없는 화자가 된다. 결국 형식담은 기대에 부응함으로써가 아니라 기대를 저버림으로써 이야기에 대해 기대하는 바를 드러낸다. 역설적이게도 신뢰할 수 없는 화자가 신뢰하는 이야기가 무엇인지를 드러내는 것이다. 마지막으로 이 논문은 형식담의 공동체가 가지는 특성을 반성적 이야기 문화를 형 성한 데에서 찾는다. 반성적 이야기 문화의 공동체는 반영적 공동체와는 다르다. 반영 적 공동체가 설화에 대한 막연하고 유아적인 사고를 하는 데 비해, 반성적 공동체는 설화를 대상화하고, 설화의 외부에서 사고할 수 있으며, 자신들이 설화를 그렇게 인식 하고 있음 또한 자각할 수 있기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Unlike other narratives, formal talks question the rules of the story. This paper is a study of recipients of formal talks, i.e., communities that share non-material resources of story norms, and discusses what story norms are shared by communities that enjoy formal talks, and the process or method of sharing them. First of all, in this paper, I divide the formal discourse into three main categories, thanks to existing discussions. (1) The concluding normative destruction type issues the formal convention that ends the story, and (2) the normative destruction type of world composition reveals the convention of the person or situation setting inside the story. (3) In some cases, the two types may be mixed. What they have in common is that they question the independence and unity of the fictional world and question its perfectness and completeness by allowing entry into the real world or by comparing it with the real world. Audiences who unconsciously accept the perfectness and completeness of the fictional world are surprised during the performance of formal tales, a sentiment that occurs when a violation of expectations is revealed and when expectations are unfolded differently than expected. Speakers of formal stories that make people expect and betray them become kind of unreliable tellers to the audience. In the end, formal talks reveal what they expect from the story not by meeting expectations but by defying expectations. Paradoxically, it reveals what stories an unreliable speaker trusts. Finally, this paper finds the characteristics of the community of formal talks in forming a culture of reflective narrative. The community of reflextive narrative culture is different from the community of reflective stories. While the reflective community has vague and infantile thoughts about the narrative, the reflextive community can objectize the narrative, think outside the narrative, and be aware that they recognize it as such.
