국문 초록

본 연구는 고등학교를 중심으로 선거연령 하향이 교육현장의 정치교육에 미친 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 한 고등학교에서 학생 집단과 교사 집단을 대상으로 서면 면담을 실시하였으며, 이들과의 면담을 토대로 선거연령 하향이 교육현장의 정치교육에 미친 영향을 살펴보고, 선거연령 하향이 갖는 의미와 학교교육의 발전방향을 모색하고자 한다. 연구 결과, 학생 집단에서는 고3 유권자 A그룹“선거 참여 통해 시민 의식 생겨”, 고3 예비 유권자 B그룹“아무것도 모르고 대충 투표할 수도”, 고2 예비 유권자 C그룹“올바른 학교 정치교육이 급선무”등의 사실을 확인하였다. 한편, 교사 집단인 D그룹에서는 선거연령 하향이 교육현장에 미치는 영향에 대해 “정치에 대한 관심 높아져 vs. 교실의 정치화 우려”의 입장으로 긍정적 측면과 부정적 측면을 동시에 인식하고 있었다. 이상의 결론을 바탕으로 학생 유권자를 위한 학교 정치교육의 발전 방향을 네가지로 정리해서 구체적으로 제시하고, 후속연구를 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the impact of lowering the election age on political education at educational sites, focusing on high schools. To this end, we conducted written interviews with groups of students and teachers at high school sites, and based on our interviews with them, we will examine the impact of lowering the election age on political education at educational sites, and explore the meaning of lowering the election age and the direction of the development of school education. As a result of the study, the student group identified the following facts: “Group A of high school seniors” “creating civic awareness through participation in elections,” “high school prospective B group” “may vote roughly without knowing anything” and “Group C of high school prospective voters” “correct political education in schools is a priority.” Meanwhile, Group D, a group of teachers, was simultaneously aware of the positive and negative aspects of the impact of the lowering of election age on the educational scene as “more interest in politics vs. concern about the politicization of the classroom.” Based on the above conclusions, four directions for the development of political education in schools for student voters were presented in detail and a follow-up study was suggested.
