유·도가 철학의 심미성 고찰 및 회화작품 이해를 위한 접근

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 공·맹을 위시한 유가철학의 이상과 노자·장자를 주축으로 한 도가철학의 이상 및 그에 수반되는 심미사상을 고찰하기 위해 몇 가지 회화 작품을 선정하여 작품의 내용, 유·도가 철학의 심미적 반영, 표현요소 등을 토대로 정리하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 우리 민족 정서에 깊이 흡수된 철학의 이상을 작품을 통하여 확인함으로써 가까이에서 볼 수 있는 서화작품을 보다 친근히 감상하고 민족적 정서에 대한 자긍심을 회복하려는 데 주안점을 둔다. 유가의 인(仁) 사상과 중용적 인격에 내재된 심미성, 본질미와 형식미를 드러낸 ‘회사후소’(繪事後素), 도가의 자유분방한 풍류와 신선사상에서 오는 호방함과 파격미 등 은 상보적·유기적으로 연결되어 있음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

In this research, several paintings were chosen to describe their contents, aesthetic reflection of Confucius and Tao philosophy, and the method of expression in order to study ideals of Confucian philosophy represented by Confucius and Mencius, as well as ideals of Taoism philosophy represented by Lao-tzu and Chuangtzu. The purpose of this research is to appreciate traditional Korean paintings more closely by understanding ideals of philosophies in the paintings which are deeply engraved in the psyche of Korean people, and to restore pride in national sentiment. The result of research on the concepts and ideals of Confucianism and Taoism and their paintings are as follows. First, three countries which belong to the Chinese ideograph cultural area Korea, China and Japan have had a world view based on organic monism. They sought to find the meaning of human existence in the workings of heavens and earth. In this, they mutually understand each other in terms of the living philosophy of Confucianism and Taoism. Second, a core philosophy of Confucianism is perfect virtue and moderation (the middle-of-the-road), and aims to contribute to society by means of harmonious personality. Third, the philosophy of Taoism is ‘Dobeobjayeon (道法自然)’ and it believes nature is suzerain and thus suggests that people should live without damaging nature and all things in it. Fourth, when looking into paintings of Korea, China and Japan while focusing on philosophies of Confucianism and Taoism, it was found that those two philosophies existed separately but together in paintings of the three nations. This research leads to the conclusion that Confucianism and Taoism philosophies suggest condition, characteristics, and need for change of human existence through the nature of heaven and earth, and also advises us to restore the original nature of humans by modeling thecondition of heaven and earth. Through this research, it was confirmed that aesthetics existing in the idea of perfect virtue and moderation, and ‘Hoesahooso(繪事後素)’, which reveals the true and formal aesthetics of Confucianism, and broad- mindedness and rule-breaking which come from the liberal elegance and ideas of the hermit philosophy of Taoism, are linked in a complementary and organic way.
